Hi great people of OCUK
I dont know what happened to my old account? but anyways, time for upgrading my GPU before the arrival of BF4.
I currently have a mildly overclocked GTX 480 which i've put up for sale on ebay
It runs every game but i like to run games at nearly max settings and need min 60fps , so im looking for a new gpu.
The choices for my budget are quite limited. they Asus GTX 680 dicrect CU2 @ £270 and Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum @ £270.
my gut feeling is always to go for nVidia cards but i have this theory in my head, which could very well be false, that since both next gen consoles have AMD based gpu/cpus, the next gen games are going to run better on an AMD card rather than Nvidia's.
The speed between the cards are very very close. i'd say the same. but the nVidia card runs cooler, quieter and uses less power.
Would really appreciate your input. specially from those with experience with either card.
NOTE: one thing i just remembered, my psu does not have any 8 pin pci-e connectors. it has 1 or 2 6-pin pci-es connectors only. would this be an issue?
EDIT

It has come to my attention that my psu will probably not be able to handle the matrix plat because it has no 8 pin connectors. so i have a new option, the standard GE of the 7970. is it much worse than the platinum?
