Baby Crushed to Death at Airport

You think it's acceptable not to punish someone who's stupidity/laziness/recklessness/all-of-these led to the death of a child? I don't.

What exactly is a prison sentence going to do for them? Cost to the tax payer for teaching them a lesson not to accidentally kill their own 4-month old child  Get a grip.

It's not about the mother - it's about teaching the public that when you have children you must look after them at all times and be overcautious. If this sort of recklessness goes unpunished then it will continue to happen. Imagine that this woman is now imprisoned - it will be massive news. People will think twice about dumping their kids on carousels.

While tragic, you wouldn't exactly be thinking of the dangers of your baby being crushed when putting them down for a minute (which has happened before how many times? None?).

Just a tragic accident.

Hindsight 20/20.

We don't know the FULL situation so we can easily blame the mother for being foolish. At the end, an innocent life died and hopefully something positive come of it, where weight activated belts are turned off when not monitored / in use.

Sometimes you are a prat.

It's completely true. The kid didn't ask to be born, it had no choice in the matter. And now it has to suffer for the idiocy of its parents.

Tell me, what kind of person puts their kid on a luggage carousel? It's defenceless and nothing but an act of the densest stupidity.

I agree. Putting down a carrier for just a minute without really thinking . . easily done unfortunately.

Mentioned this in the office and Woman sat next to me said she has seen so many people do this in airports.
So as stupid as YOU may think it is, a loit of LAZY people don't seem to think so.
She didn't MURDER her child or intend to cause HARM, so why should she be punished ????

To be prosecuted and convicted you must have intent, otherwise it is deemed an accident (unless gross negligence can be proved, which I don't think can in this case)

There are no words for this, really. Except that she should absolutely be prosecuted and i'll not hear the usual "she's suffered enough" nonsense. Utterly horrendous. Can you even imagine it...

She should not be prosecuted!

admittedly she was very stupid, but she has to live with the fact that she killed her own child for the rest of her life, I cant even begin to imagine what that must feel like.

Why not? You should think twice before you dump your child on a carousel. Would you put your kid on the bonnet of a parked car? Just because it's stationary doesn't mean it will stay stationary. It's stupidity and recklessness.

So because a LOT of people do this, it's ok? And why can't gross negligence be proven? Dumping your kid on a conveyor belt is completely negligent.

Sure, but where you put it is the point.

Did nothing flicker in her blunt skull for a second to the effect of, "hmm, maybe I shouldn't do this"? But no, disaster.

And so it crossing the road without holding hands, kids running with scissors e.t.c. You can't jail everyone of those potential which lead to an accident. It's an unfortunate accident.

To be honest putting it on the belt wasn't the mistake, taking their eyes off it once it was on there, was.

Splitting hairs. That's like saying, "putting your hand in a waste disposal unit isn't a problem, but keeping your eyes off the on-switch is".
