Bought EVO mag today and it has the 2013 tyre review carried out on a Mercedes 1.6.

Goodyear F1AS2 won it. Linglongs came last.

Mercedes - presumably A class? FWD run of the mill I guess, doesn't really represent most of the cars Evo test and recommend.

Goodyears are very good, work very well on my Golf. Super Sports work even better on the M3!

Read the 2012 review then as thats on an Audi S3. Its purely indicative and of interest and sure it may not apply to all cars.

If it's of no use as its on an A class - how is your comment about the M3 tyres of any use to someone without an M3?

Well that can't be right, as lots of very knowledgeable people on PistonHeads have been claiming that premium brand tyres are a waste of money. I bet Goodyear slipped EVO a backhander to make sure Linglong came last :(

I would say the opposite? Nearly every thread has loads of people saying not to buy ditch finders and to buy decent tyres?

I have GY AS2's on the front of my Leon. :)

I always buy decent tyres, and haven't had crappy tyres for years. However the cynic in me wonders how much of performance tyres is snakeoil and how much is real. I'd love to back to back test some linglongs vs. F1A2s and find out.

At the end of the day I do 20k miles a year, even if I drive perfectly (which I don't) I can't allow for the people around me so when I want to stop I want to stop as quickly as possible, which is why I splash the cash.

Different cars will make a difference but it gives you a general idea. It seems the general idea is that the AS2 is one of the best tyres you can buy, so I'll continue to buy them.

I had some 'not quite' ditchfinders called Prestivo Sport (apparently related to Firestone in some way) on all four wheels on my Leon when I bought it. Terrible for understeer in the wet, dangerously so as it would start pushing at even moderate speeds. They were alright in the dry but would lose traction without any warning at all and would give wheel spin in second in the wet. Replaced with GY EF1 Asy2's and haven't looked back. Much happier and far more consistent.

I finally managed to get them to work with my car. Threw traditional wisdom out the window and pumped them up to 42psi, no more jello-ride. I suspect this pressure will rise quick when driven hard though, jury is still out. Definitely would not buy again.

34/36, so it's a lot higher now. Newer models do run 40 and above though, so maybe it's not as retarded as it seems?

I know I could run high 20s with AD08 and get the same feel

You would have to be daft to think that Goodyears advertising purchases were not a factor, but theres only so much a magazine can lie until it gets caught and loses all credibility.

They are excellent road car tyres for all conditions and the wear rate is good. Mine are at 12k now on the rear and at about 2.5mm
