Speeding on a motorway

Congratulations on my car being able to go that fast without falling apart?!

On a serious note, 6+ points and a fine no doubt worth more than my Mondeo.

I would expect, if they are following the guidelines, for it to be a court summons for anything over 94mph. For 97mph in court I would expect 3-6 points and a fine of £100+. In saying that I got let off with a warning when I was stopped for doing 95mph.

This happened about 10 years ago on a dual carriageway (A30 :p) and the officer gave me a standard FPN for £60 and 3 points. Then found out I had lost my photocard license so couldn't comply and it went to magistrates court where I got 5 points and £120 fine payable in £10 weekly installments :p

Fine is based on earnings if you go to court so cannot really help on that but I got 2 month ban, no points and £250 fine when doing 116 on a dual carriageway. This was almost 6 years ago though.

Strange the officer said the fine can go higher on a motorway for some reason.

96mph and 99mph on the motorway, both netted me 3 points and the fine, whatever it was at the time 8+ years ago.

I was pulled for 103mph on the A303 in 1997, if i hadn't had 9 points already he was going to give me 3, but couldn't so it went to court, a week before 3 came off and i got 6 and kept my license (12) because i needed it for my job :D

I was in a car with my brother, he was caught doing about 120 mph if I remember correctly.

Copper came upto my window, said at those speeds you can lose your license and to cut it out.

I think what saved him was the clear indicating and keeping left unless overtaking.

So you're speeding on a motorway and you're pulled over by a marked traffic unit. The officer tells you that he recorded you doing 97mph. What would you expect the punishment to be?

You are also an officer and it's a training excercise. So you just carry on as normal? :)

Fine and some points minimum i think, however it depends on the scenario, does the police officer have a chip on their shoulder? is it dry? clear road or busy traffic? what speeds were the other vehicles going?

The reason I bring this up is because traditionally it would be up to the officer whether they would issue a FPN, offer a speed awareness course or summons to court, albeit with guidelines. This has now changed and disposal decisions are decided centrally which means the officer no longer had discretion on what to offer. So in my scenario, you would get a summons to court, no ifs or buts. The actual sentence is up to the magistrate though.

Wow, that sucks!!

I suppose a saving grace for me, is that my work van (and along with all others) has a tracker fitted, so doing a great deal higher than the limit isn't on the cards:(

And the purpose of this is what?

Replace inconsistent decisions by police by inconsistent decisions by magistrates but at least its being done in public?

6 pts and £300 if average earner

having said that I did get pulled for 97 on a dual carriageway a while ago, he wrote me a summons ticket but eventually I managed to get it torn up and got a good telling off

Keeping left is such a big issue for cops, I dont get what the problem is if somebody wants to drive in the fast lane?
