Is there a Land Rover/4x4/Offroaders thread?

I know what tyres I want and I have test fitted a set of the right size (but in All terrain version) on it. Tight squeeze but it fouls the front bumper on lock so it's either a case of trimming that or fitting a winch bumper sooner than planned! :D

285 x 75 x 16. Got a feeling the Mud terrains will have a deeper tread though which may scupper my plans somewhat as they are a bloody tight fit as it is.

Nice! That's what I want to move up to next. There's a guy on D2BC running them on a 2 inch lift and says he's fine. Looks proper tight on the rear under articulation but he doesn't have ANY bump stops let alone +2s!

I've got +3" shocks on it and HD +2" springs so it's in all likelihood a bit higher than +2 currently as I am not carrying the gear those springs were designed for..
Nice on the road though. :D Can certainly throw it around without any lean (I have ACE which is also helping on that front too mind)

I might go up to some +3" springs and be done with it (if I can find some that are well made and don't sag like most of the cheaper ones seem to do) but feel if I do that, I'm gonna need to modify a few things :D (front cross member, Castor angle, prop length, wide angle joints etc... HASSLE MUCH

Yeh that's the trouble with going anything more than +2 isn't it. You're right though, ACE is a great system!

And yeh I know what you mean about the cheap springs. I've been weighing up a lift for a while now but think I'll wait until I can stretch to OME.

Ive got a 3.5 v6 pajero :) Its been lifted and booted, winch should be going on in the next few weeks once. Used to have a 3v6 shogun but the headgasket went and its now slowly being stripped

Ive got a CTA 12000 winch. I need remake the cradle and then test it, i might need new soleniod as i got 2 wires mixed up and it let out some of the magic smoke :(

It's all over facebook, I really can't see why it's so surprising when the Dodge RAM is bloody two wheel drive, it was never going to win with no weight over the rear end

Different story with duallys and a load, that shape of ram (unless it's a very early facelift) was the 6.7 not the 5.9 so had 350hp 800ft/lb stock.

Stick 15 tonnes on the back of the ram and it will tow that AND the defender AND a RR sport in the opposite direction whilst both are trying. :D

mine, although its moved on a little since then. got winch, dual battery setup and LED lights added. still got proper stuck at last weekends biggin quarry event thought lol.

Bit of an off topic, but what is the law now on big bars on these (finding conflicting info)? My dad had an old nissan patrol with a almighty 'roo bar' (he called it) on it that looked like it could
drive through a house and come off best. Said bumper is now sat in the garage, almost identical to this.

I don't actually know. Been wondering about my winch bumper too, different thing I know, but being bolted directly to the chassis leave me with zero crumple zone. Not exactly pedestrian friendly.

Then again a 2.5 tonne brick isn't really is :D

Also, that looks kind of like an Arb bumper. If your old mans is, could be worth a few quid.

Mid-2000s the law changed so only pedestrian friendly rubber bullbars are allowed on new vehicles. It doesnt affect older vehicles tho.

Winch bumpers come under a different classification that i cant remeber what its called atm - functional tool or something similiar

When I was down in North Devon a few weeks back, I took it up a pretty steep "Unsuitable for vehicles" track. Got some decent wheel articulation going on.
I was most impressed with my 2mpg average when I got to the top.

Ive not had the guts to take my Range Rover properly off road, i have driven around fields and up some tracks for a bit of fun (i live right out in the country so plenty around) but i am too scared of getting stuck when on my own. You can hardly call the AA out to the kind of places where a Rangie will be stuck :(
