The Official Pro Evolution soccer 2014

Its all horses for courses but I love the headers in the middle of the park/defending... players really leap for the ball and clatter the opponent. Crossing I find similar and ill add in attacking headers... im not getting them atm.

I mean I like the variety in crosses, inswingers, outswing... nice pace on the ball, not all crosses hit their target etc, so it feels right... in that sense, maybe just as I cant get headers in that im finding that frustrating.

Slide tackling is great, the stab tackle as I call it in football games is a bit iffy at times, but again if it works, its good... as the ball dosent glue to your feet, you get all sorts of richochets and rebounds that make you have to react rather than waltz in, scoop the ball off someones foot and instantly race off down the pitch.

I agree that the frustration is bore out of the potential for it to be immaculate, as it can be... but there are times you just think... CMON.

what u got to remember this is their first game using a new engine.

compare pes 2014 to fifa 07, (which was the first game to use the current engine) and you realize just how much potential PES has for the future.

fifa 07 was dire.

I know i asked this before, but is there any place to buy this as a digital download? I don't mean Steam key, just downloadable on its own. I cant find it anywhere.

Ive also noticed a minor delay, but someone posted that its to do with the physic system in that you cant just do something if your body is not set.. as irl. Now im not sure if thats the case for everything, for some things I can agree that could be the situation... but recent games for me that delay has gone by either working my man into the position I need him to be to instantly perform the action, or at least queue it up... so the man has a pop at doing what you want.

idk, to me its probably the best PES for a long time. Mods will make it awesome.

I think your right, I recall reading about it, will probably not notice once time passes. The more I play this game the more I appreciate what Kei Masuda and co have attempted to do here. It feels much more natural playing this game, the truball tech and bary centrics has done wonders to the gameplay. I am also slowly getting used to the defensive controls, was struggling in the beggining. This game seems to grow the more you play it.

wedgie - many thanks for uploading the mods, great job

The actual on the pitch stuff though is closer to FIFA than it has been for 5 or so years, if it wasn't for the lack of fluidity at times in animations compared to FIFA, especially when it comes to dribbling it could be argued this is a better game on the pitch this year.

Please god no!

If PES 2014 is anything like any FIFA game then I am sticking with PES 2013.

I dont think PES and FIFA have ever felt the same, its a shame that PES has lost a lot of fans because it just went to pot for a few years... whilst FIFA, although not being that great itself, picked up on the online aspect of the game, picked up on the casual market and basically blitzed it with the modes it offers.

So to the poster asking, PES14 is better than PES13 and is in turn nothing like what FIFA offers...

It's not what I meant anyway, just that it's finally a good package in gameplay terms and not years back on the tech running it.

See, I think PES 2013 is tremendous in terms of gameplay alone, but perhaps a bit behind with practically everything else (player likenesses aside).

I have always found FIFA games to be pretty stale to be honest, but up until very recently, it was the only real option for online video soccer gaming. One fo the things I have always hated in FIFA is the delays involved between the button press and the execution of the action on the field and even with FIFA 13 and indeed the FIFA 14 demo, this is still a problem at the crucial moments in front of goal.

Thus, it concerns me that many are reporting input delay to be a big problem with PES 2014. I don't want a great base for future editions of the game. I want a slick fluid exciting football game right now. From what I can make out, the online mode seems also to have taken a step back. For the last two years, the online 1v1 game at least was pretty decent.

There is a delay, not always but when its expected... like real life, even Messi and Barcelona dont just ping, ping, ping etc - of course the one touch stuff is still there and is easy to pull off. BUT player physics come into it, how idk, but it seems to be realistic enough albeit occasionally frustrating.

I mean if the ball comes to a striker and he isnt set for the shot, odds are there will be a delay for getting the ball under control and his body into position... now thats sometimes AI issues, player fault.. or just football tbh. Older versions iirc just let you bang it, no matter how the ball came across or how the player was situated, so it takes some getting used to.

Frustrating turns into Rewarding imo, however I can see it from both sides.

I am probably the biggest PES fanboy you will ever come across. I have thoroughly enjoyed every release of PES, even 2008. Thus I am very sorry to say that I am finding next to no fun playing PES2014. In pure fun terms PES2014 is a massive step down compared to 2013.

I have had to drop from Top Player to Professional to even get any semblance of enjoyment, but even then, compared to 2013 it is incredibly slow and unresponsive, and the AI does very peculiar things on a whim it seems to me. Shooting is particularly floaty and is one thing alone that is HUGELY better in PES2013.

Defending in 2014 is a complete lottery, again compared to 2013. In 2013 you were used to the CPU occasionally waltzing past you with nothing you could do about it, but only if you made basic errors in letting CPU players have the space or letting them lose their markers, or being too gung ho. In 2014 your defenders seem to just crowd around and watch the ball, whilst the CPU tippy toes around slow dribbling with you seemingly unable to get any of your defenders to put real pressure on the attacker.

I play the PS3 version, I understand things are supposed to be slightly more responsive in the PC version, so some of my comments might not apply, but I can't imagine it being that different.

In previous games I was not particularly bothered about the presentation aspects in the game, menus and the like. But again, this is a massive step back compared to 2013, particularly the loading times for any graphics which are not default. For example I am playing with an option file and when showing a league table for example, it literally takes 2-3 seconds for each and every club logo to appear next to the team name, one after another. That is just diabolical. Happens on every screen that needs to load some non default graphics. Again, may just be the PS3, but it is extremely annoying.

I have been used in the past to having to get to grips with a new version of PES, there have been a couple of times when I thought "What have they done to my game!?", you accept this as a right of passage, as up until now you assume/know it will be worth the effort in the short term. This time I do not get this feeling AT ALL. I don't know if this is a fundamental issue with the new engine, or simply because the game does not feel even half finished. But I have serious doubts I will be able to play this for much longer before I return to 2013 and wait the next year out in the hope that a PS4 version will rescue the game.
