Declined holiday ruining potential opportunity.... What would you?

Does going to Dubai include having a job already lined up? If this is the case I would seriously consider leaving your current job when you have it in writing you have one in Dubai. Based on your feelings for your current job this seems like reasonable action. Make sure you serve notice in time to leave for Dubai and have a bit of time off before.

It doesn't no but there are IT support jobs currently available.

I have £9k in savings so could survive for a while.

Phone in sick? What's the period for being signed off by the doc now 9 days?

How long have you been there?

I've been here 2 years. I just think it's a little obvious now the request has been declined.

Just take the holiday off sick plus another week to let the tan fade a little bit, sorted :p or start on the sunbeds now so no one will notice.

Stay off on the sick > Go to Dubai > Sort things out to re-locate and line up job interviews > Come home, Quit > Go back to Dubai > Get job > Don't look back

This, or explain to your boss that he's ****-blocking you in a MAJOR way here, and if nobody else is actually off on that period for annual leave there is zero reasonable explanation for the refusal, and you would like to raise a grievance about it if he cannot comply with your wishes.

"I'll do anything, for even just the tip, and that includes taking this right to the top."

Tell your Boss that if you cant have the week off then you will have to quit, if they are so under staffed then chances are he will let you go.
Or sign your self off with stress and visit your Doctor to obtain a sick note, you can go on Holiday when you have stress as it is deemed an attempt to get your self better.
Or just quit anyway and go.

Walk in to his office and take a dump on his desk.

It will show him you're the alpha male and not to be messed with. He'll immediately respect you as the real boss and give you six weeks off.

An if he still says no you need to to start throwing your feces in his face! That'll learn him!!!

Afternoon all,

Basically I hate my job, I dread every single working day here. I feel emotional all the time, waking up during the night, can't switch off on my days off etc. I've just had enough.

I have an opportunity to go to Dubai for a week with the potential of relocating there at a later date.

Today my request for annual leave has been declined because other staff members are on annual leave for the 5 weeks running up to my request and in my bosses words 'he will have his balls handed to him on a plate for allowing it'.

This for me isn't a valid reason. No-one else is on annual leave, it is purely because we are under staffed and have been for the last year.

What would you do?

If you really have severe stress and anxiety issues then go to the doctors, you might get signed off for some time? In which case it is perfectly valid to go on holiday to relax.

Sadly, you have no rights regarding when and how you take your vacation. Everything regarding your days off work can be forced upon you so you have no valid legal action.

If nothing works out just quit your job if you think you can find employment elsewhere reasonably.

I was under the impression that if you are wanting PAID leave then the company holds all the cards and can dictate when you have them but if you want to take the leave UNPAID then they cant do anything about it?

They can hand you your P45 when you get back.

Go and tell your boss you're taking the next 3 weeks off, but not to worry, it's cool, he doesn't need to pay you. See how it goes down.
