Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum vs GTX 680

There's no point in saying anything, as you're just going to rant about how awful it is whatever anyone says...

Well if they are real improvements that would affect real life things then i would have to agree. This is an objective matter, not a subjective one. So now, please tell me what i missed in these wonderful cards.

What i did to my matrix.

How does that strengthen your case? If anything it will make people less inclined to listen to your views, whether that are valid or not. Assuming it was a full working card it is an irrational thing to do with something of value.

It wasnt working, it started artifacting on stock all of the sudden, couldnt get it RMAd so i broke it and got a reference card. Best decision i ever made.

Did you overclock it too far? Was the memory getting too hot and this is why it ended up artifacting at stock?

The golden rule is to return the card like it was new and everything in tact and they would have replaced it. I can understand your frustration but lots of recommendations for the Platinum and Top variants from other users, it is hard to sway the OP to your way of thinking when he has looked about at other reviews.

I say go for the DCII Top OP, as that is a cracking deal on a cracking card :)

I've used a 680 and now have 7970 matrix platinum edition. That 7970 card is a monster, it also overclocks REALLY well. 7970 in my opinion mate.

GPU tweak is abit annoying to use, but it was fine once I got used to it. Set my overclocked settings as default/bios etc.

I still have the 680 but my 7970 is definitely the better one out of the two I've had.

1. Better PCB.
2. Better compatibility for waterblocks.
3. Use the oc software of your choice and not the forced to use GPU Tweak.
4. VRM sensors.

im not looking to use water cooling. not fussed about the oc software since i wont be doing any hard core ocing and the quality of the PCB is very much debatable.

honestly it just sounds like you really hate Asus.

very well said. if he didnt modify the card he would get a replacement card, problems solved. even in ref cards, it is possible to have a faulty unit and you cant go round saying they suck because yours was faulty...

THANKS to everyone who contributed. i will be getting the DCII TOP. it has 8+6 pin connectors according to OC description and at £240 is dead cheap. hope it all works out.

Thanks everyone!

Most of the problems i had was not because it was defective, but because it was a Matrix 7970.
