Capital One Cup - Second Round 24/25 September *** Spoilers ***

I'm not so sure, the arsenal decision was wrong because no advantage was played at all and subsequently having failed to play advantage the correct punishment to Sanga was not delt delt out.

However in this case assuming the ref saw the foul and in the extremely short time available decided to play advantage which I highly doubt, a shot on goal was attempted, that was the advantage. The fact that a goal wasn't scored or the target hit is not a reason to pull play back for a penalty. Though what should have happened in that situation was play stopped immediately and a penalty awarded (even though there wasn't time to humanly do so between the foul and the shot) as arguably shorts around the ankles negated any meaningful advantage :o

He had his shorts around his ankles almost, it wasn't a "clean" shot. A real advantage would be if he got fouled but then went on and took a shoot clean without being either off balance, or with his shorts down and effecting his shot. Likewise an advantage doesn't(or I should say, shouldn't but refs are crap) effect the punishment for the foul at all. If someone runs across does a two footed stamp but misses the player who then goes on and scores, the ref can play advantage then come back and send the player off. It rarely happens, referee's mostly allow something to go unpunished if something "good" happens for the other team.

IE the advantage is supposed to replace a freekick, because the advantage might lead to a better chance to score than the freekick, the foul is separate. Sagna should have been red carded for fouling and being the last man back, and afaik Verm was basically last man back, with or without the penalty it's a red card. Woeful referee, I would have given the penalty and red card because though he had the advantage and shot... try shooting with shorts around your knees, no way in hell it wouldn't effect it.

Hopefully this team is strong enough, I'll honestly be shocked if we're within 10 points of the top of the table come April, we just spent 42mil and both cups are clearly are best chance of silverware... and we put out a joke team. There is quality out there but half of these guys haven't played at all even as subs let alone starting games. I can see us doing okay but against a match fit team... with most of this team having barely played yet I can see the final 30-40mins of this game being very very tough.

It would be nice Wenger, if just once you acted like you wanted to win something.

Given the threadbare state of the team, I'd rather save the not-injured people for the league. I think we could do with someone more experienced instead of Hayden in that position.

I can't believe I'm having to watch Rooney drop into our half to get the ball because we've got a manager to stupid to know you need central midfielders in football.
