Looking at the map it was just before you go under the redheugh bridge, rather than going down to the riverfront there was a diversion sign that lead me up to the A184 - could've been on a different section to you though. I'll follow the blue sign next time as I don't think there was actually any reason for the diversion sign.

Annoying the bridge segment is flagged but yeah looks like I did it slower than you lol
oh yea you went a different way to me as I said I turn left and go to the end of the road where the new houses and building site is (on google maps it looks blocked off but it hasn't been for ages)

I guess some jobsworth idiot doesn't think people should be racing across it to get a segment time....

I'll make another version :p

:D

Looks like you carried your bike across

awful segment creation, you included the few metres just before the bridge that I spent waiting for people who were in the way :P literally doubled my time from the flagged segment

oh lol you could always make another version :D

I guess you didn't catch the edit on my post but the excuse was ready!

one side is pedestrian only the other side is a shared cycling lane.

there is a divider between both sides it is perfectly safe to sprint across it 90% of the time in my experience.
about the only time it's a hazardous segment is when the bridge does this to let a boat under

I've sprinted across it when workmen have been there and they never said anything to me.

Dont tell me that, go and tell strava.
Creating duplicate segments isnt the answer.

neither is falsely flagging segments for silly reasons and there is no option from a segment page to tell strava someone reported it when it doesn't need to be

they might as well flag every cycle path in the country because people walk on them, anyway I told you that because you roll eyed most likely thinking it was a normal footbridge that didn't have a separate cycle lane

I flagged a segment the other day, not because of its danger, but because it was categorised as a Cat 4 climb, claiming a 91m elevation, when actually it was more like...1m!

Seen a few posts where in america people have gone and obliterated an entire area of segments, at least it doesn't seem to be too bad over here.

Looking at the segment page it says it is flagged as hazardous because it has an average grade of less than -0.25%, it shows a gradient of -2.5% but that it due to bad elevation data from whoever made the segment, average gradient should be 0% as it is the same height on both sides of the river.

Looking at strava FAQs they actually say to re-create the segment:
Strava said:
Bad elevation data: If you are the creator of this segment, you can delete the segment and recreate it with better elevation data. If you are not the creator, the best thing to do is to "Hide" the segment on your ride or run. See Hide/Unhide Segments. You can then recreate the segment using better elevation data.

Trying to find a way to contract strava and tell them.

edit: submitted a support ticket for the flagged segment.

surely bad elevation data by a tiny fraction makes no difference?
the data we have is not exactly accurate anyway compared to america.

it's not like it's classed as a category climb even though it's almost flat(one of the paths from the quayside to newburn was a cat 3 the other month lol) and are you sure the river is the same height on both sides?

I'll see what my garmin says on both sides the next time I do it if I can be bothered. (I'll probably go on that route again tomorrow I only did about 25miles this week and I forgot to start the timer on my garmin and didn't notice it ask me if I wanted to start it when it detected movement :( so one of my rides misses about 5-7 miles

It must be pretty close, river would flow sideways otherwise.

Strava don't want people racing down hills as it is 'dangerous', so anything steeper than 0.25% supposedly is a hazardous segment. This one says it is -2.7% and if you look at the curve on the original segment (http://www.strava.com/segments/1598352) I don't think it goes down and then back up, it's the other way round lol.

Will wait and see what strava come back with

oh lol I never even noticed the elevation thought it was a descent

anyway the river wouldn't flow sideways the wall height on each side would just be different heights :P

I'm not fast enough to get any KOM's anyway just happy beating my own times and use strava to visualise my improvements I otherwise wouldn't likely notice. my segment times are likely pedestrian compared to some of the other cyclists in here.

Was hoping to get out cycling tonight but work was super lame so I got home late. Not been out since Tuesday :/

Gonna head out tomorrow instead. Got the morning off on Monday for a ride as well. Shush, don't tell the mrs.

yea I think only me and phantom ride in newcastle.
although one other ocuker is on some of my segments but i think he is from durham and only ever rode them once.

I rode out from Newcastle to Jarrow whilst working up there in April and looking back at the route there's 5 other ocuker's on the segments.
