Should I pre-order Watchdogs??

I used to pre order all the time, then I learned how to manage my finances better. With exception of a lot of first party Nintendo games, they usually drop so much in a month I cannot justify spending 30 or even 40 on a game anymore. There will always be exceptions, an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game and a non XIII Final Fantasy.

My policy is now to sit and wait until a couple of days after release. I have a sour taste in my mouth and feeling butt hurt after buying Takedown red Sabre which is full of bugs and would not let you join servers.

I'm waiting the game looks so good with what they've shown but until some reviews from people I trust come in i'll wait.

I don't want to pre-order stuff any more after buying a couple of duds recently, but its a shame as you can get some great deals. As an example, getting Bioshock infinite for £22.50 at launch with a free copy of Bioshock, XCom and Spec Ops the line, now that's just a bargain. Fortunately this game turned out to be great, but its becoming a risk.

Never pre-order an Ubisoft game.

Haha!

Pre-ordering is a good and bad thing, i think with smaller developers and a game you know you will buy, go for it.

you're helping them out and keeping smaller companies alive.
Sometimes there is the incentive of some special DLC, but most of the time within a month or 2 there will be a price reduction and after that silly price steam sales come along, so it depends on if you want to play it on release or not. but just buy it on the day.

I would never pre-order a digital copy of the game as prices are stupidly high and there are limited ways of backing out at a later date should the game start to look decidedly poor.

I don't mind so much pre-ordering a physical copy of the games as they can normally be found for a good price online and it is easier to get the pre-order canceled, or the sealed game can be sometimes returned for a refund.

yea I pre ordered a square enix game and asked for a refund weeks before release and it had to be escalated to head office even though the terms and conditions say you can have a refund at any point prior to release or something along those lines.....

EDIT
Cooling-off period. If you are contracting with us as a consumer, then, subject to the provisions of this section 2.9.1, you may cancel any Supply Contract for a Product ordered from us at any time within the period of 14 days after: (a) in the case of a Physical Product, the date on which you received the Product; or (b) in the case a Download Product, the date on which we notify you that the Download Product is available for download from the Store; or (c) in the case of a Store Service, the date of entering into the Supply Contract with us for the provision of the Store Service. For customers resident in Norway, however, each date described in paragraphs (a) to (c) of the preceding sentence shall instead be the date on which you receive notice of your cancellation right.
obviously as I had requested a refund before the games release date it should never have needed head office approval......

I agree with what you've said other than the price, there are some bargains to be had on digital pre-orders. The example I gave above, Bioshock Infinite for £22.50 at launch, that was cheaper than a physical copy.

I pre-order games often, if they take the money straight away. I pre-ordered Thief yesterday for £19.50, out in february. I have spare cash now, I can't guarantee that I will then.

Plus, there is no chance of it not being great!

Thief - Plus, there is no chance of it not being great!

Debatable.

Watch Dogs - I really want Watch Dogs to be good, Ive been following it for a while and Im looking forward to the release.....however, Im not sure. I cant put my finger on why but I have this feeling it may turn out to be pretty meh. All the videos so far have 'media' written all over them and they all seem very scripted. Id love it to be like GTA with all the free roam but this hacking feature could be quite restricted. Every time I see footage where the player 'hacks' something like traffic lights or bollards that pop up to stop a car I wonder if that is part of the pre-scripted mission like a QTE and you cant do it whenever you like in free roam.

We shall see, I havent pre ordered but I'll get the PC version regardless.

I don't know really, I really want it but pre ordering is, as mentioned before, retarded.
I think I'm waiting for user reviews after it comes out as I trust them better then critics for some unjustified reason, it looks so good though!

Any video I've seen shows Pierce picking up detasils of everyone around him, in real time including any records on them. Not sure if you could 'hack' any of them though.

Of course, but from everything I have seen so far, trailers and pictures etc, everything points towards it being right up my street, and £20 looks like a steal!... I am happy to put in a preorder for it, even at this early stage. I haven't preordered Watch Dogs, but tbh, I can't imagine anything coming up that would put me off the game.

I am usually quite happy to put preorders in early, as if you do your research, you will rarely get burned. I can't think of a game I have preordered that I have been disappointed in tbh(maybe Tomb Raider, can't remember if I preordered it or not)
