Hello I am just out of hospital and a bit bored so looking to upgrade my PC,

My current spec is:

i5 750 @ 3Ghz
16GB RAM (no real reason just because)
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R Intel P55
AMD 5830
Samsung 830 Series SSD
22" Monitor
Antec 300 Case
OCZ StealthXStream 2 600W Power Supply

I want to run games a bit faster and a better monitor as my monitor is a bit washed out. So, I was thinking of upgrading the graphics card and maybe getting a 3D monitor?

So, can you spec me
* a graphics card that will run games well at 1920x1080
* a monitor (maybe 3D) that is at least 120hz

My budget is £500

Thanks!

That was easy. :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x BenQ XL2411T 24" TRUE 144Hz 3D Vision 2.0 Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red £251.99
1 x MSI HD 7970 Twin FrozR OC BE 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £239.99
Total : £505.48 (includes shipping : £11.25).

but that monitor doesn't come with 3D glass..

This one does though.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Acer GD245HQ 23.6" 120Hz 3D Widescreen LCD Monitor with 3D Glasses (ET.UG5HE.A07) - Black £299.99
Total : £311.99 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Though personally i'd get the BenQ and buy the glasses seperate. :)

That looks like a good option, however I thought that 3D vision was an nVidia technology. How would it work with the AMD graphics card? Also do I need to buy the 3D emitter thing too?

It will work on an AMD card but no with the 3D vision kit, youll need to use a passive kit..

I would have specced a GTX 680 but i feel 2GB of RAM may be an issue especially if wnating to play BF4 @144hz..

Nvidia would be the best way, but would cost £300 for a 4GB GTX 680 and then you have the cost of the Nvidia kit ontop of that, which is more than a passive kit..

Its all starting to add up..

You can get active 3D monitor that don't rely on 3D vision, OCUk don't seem to have any on their website.

I have a Samsung SA700 which uses Tridef software to give 3D on both both AMD and Nvidia card.

If you are wanting to go with the Nvida system but are unsure about VRAM limitations then the BF4 beta starts on Tuesday. This may give a better indication of whether a 2Gb card will be enough.

So I am thinking of forgoing 3D and going with Doomedspeed's original suggestion. Looks like a great monitor, and that graphics card should push my frames up to keep up with the higher refresh rate.

You will want to look at bumping up the OC on your CPU as well, otherwise it will likely cause a bottleneck and limit the GPUs performance.

Unfortunately my processor is a really bad overclocker. Can't get it over 3Ghz. Might consider upgrading it but would need a new motherboard too.

im still on LGA1156, and im going to a 4770K and Z87 maximus IV hero after xmas

have you got a budget we could work with for a gpu monitor and cpu/mobo upgrade?

EDIT: ive pretty much doubled your budget but its a ROG board and a 4770K, you will get that CPU over 4.5ghz easy and the 7970 1200/1600... thats not bad if i say so myself ;)

What about, instead of the i7 this i5 4670k
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-472-IN

And instead of that motherboard this
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-437-GI

That motherboard comes with this cooler free http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-012-PL

I currently have the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro

That comes to £770.96
