If you had the money to start a business what would it be ??

I intend to start an engineering consultancy. It'll be at least a few years before I've accumulated the capital and the reputation required. It'll be good :)

Run a self sufficent organic farm that also has a hostel. In a mainly warm place like southern Spain. I stayed in just such a place in 2005 while travelling in Argentina. Great way to meet people. Me and a mate WOOFED.

set up my own business this year selling other peoples assets to end users / private buyers. where they do not have time.

Infact I had very little outlay as I can work from home etc, Website and advertising cost me about 4k a year.

The biggest "money to start a business" was to pay my way for a few months why it took off.

That was January and I now have a contract for 200 machines next year (plant and machinery is my expertise) and over 800k on my books at present.

How do they not have the time (surely they take on someone to control said assets as a job?) and how do you sell them, through ebay / autotrader or your own contacts?

I feel that with a decent amount of cash to play with that wasn't mine and it was a use it or lose it kind of thing and I had to use it to make a business I would probably start a night club. I have a lot of friends into music and some who work in record stores DJ all over the place and put nights on at various venues, so with a nice place to host all this stuff I could put on many decent nights and hopefully turn a profit. My only issue is that the kids today like crap music and I might have to sacrifice my musical integrity to turn a profit.

I don't think you need to own a nightclub in order to do that... rather nightclub owners turn to people like yourself in order to arrange a night - organise the DJs etc.. and get people through the doors... don't think it requires much capital and its the sort of thing that could be done part time to being with so why not try it if that's what you'd want to do... :)

A software company. Software licenses on a successful product are fantastic. For very little additional outlay a successful product can be sold and resold. My neighbour recently sold his software company for a very substantial amount of money.

Any you know what? Starting such a company doesn't take money. It takes a will, a desire, an idea and drive.

A mobile coffee stand/van selling nice coffee made with freshly roasted beans.

Forget the van and just source your own beans and sell them to vendors, once you have built up a reliable customer base then moce into supplying the machines and your brand of coffee to cafes, offices etc etc.
A good friend of mine started out this way and makes a very decent living, although it does involve a lot of time on the road, it also takes him to a lot of wierd and wonderful places in the world shopping for coffee.

Im already in business for myself, i have a fish and chip shop but if i could start over i think i would like a venue where you come for a 5 course meal and watch a show/concert, a nice big house band etc etc.

I have an idea for a business.

A building of several floors.

Top floor - Restaurant
4th & 5th floor - Conference rooms/function hall
Second/third floor (combined into 1) - Adult sized version of a kids jungle gym
First floor - Gym
Ground floor - Offices for the business

But I'd need millions to setup and it'd be a massive risk but one that would work.

The main idea would be that businesses would have a conference meeting, have a bit of team-bonding in the jungle gym & then maybe a meal.

Potato van.

What does the UK have which are mostly unused? Ice cream vans.
Weather is often cold and miserable.

Simple.

Freaking potato van.

Stick on some ovens, go around selling jacket potatoes, roast potatoes, freaking boiled potatoes.

You pick your topping, from the basic beans and cheese, to relishes, to freaking crazy mackeral with lemon juice.

... i've not worked out all the details.

Once I've made my millions, I'd love to start businesses in places like Africa, where the staff own the business. They put in the hours and instead of getting bugger all for it, they get a proper profit share of the business. Help the people yo.

I've always said if I win the lotto then I would buy a garage and renovate old cars, not to make money but just for something to do and keep me busy.

Something I'm really interested in and with the lotto win behind me wouldn't have to worry about the +/- side of things.

Wouldn't be classics in the traditional sense, something that was around when I 1st passed my test (Mk2 XR2s and the like).

If I won it big on the Euromillions, I would totally build and run a club at cost.

Drinks would be cheap, but I would have a very strict door policy and have awesome djs and just be all around the best night clubbing you can get. :D

Probably setup a property investment/management company.

Had a chance to do this 10 years ago and didn't take the risk. I have tracked the properties I would have bought and if I had taken the risk I would have been mortgage free 5 years ago and owned two houses outright (at least) and fully rented out.

Moral of the story - taking a risk can sometimes be well worth the risk!
