What would you have done? - junk mail

If it was real mail i.e. solicited stuff then I would agree but all that's been dumped is junk mail that no one really wants.

I can only imagine that the "they are paid to do a job and they didn't do it properly" brigade always, and without fail, do their jobs 100% correct with no corner cutting at all in every occasion....

you did the right thing but i wouldnt have

that person (if kept on your route) will probably know it was you as they know whos bin they put it in!
You just never know

Indeed I do. If I didn't people could die. Just because a postman's job doesn't carry the same responsibility it doesn't make his corner cutting any less excusable.

I’d have reported this as well. For one I wouldn’t want all of this in my bin, secondly some lazy bugger probably isn’t doing their job properly and thirdly because real mail may be going astray.

This tbh. He/She is paid to deliver it. The companies that asked for it to be delivered have paid for it to be delivered.

Like it or not, it is to be treated like regular mail and delivered. It's not for the postie to decide what he/she wants to deliver.

Without making any judgement, I don't think I'd have reported it, if it was just junkmail.

There should be laws against all this unsolicited mail. Especially since most of it is glossy and difficult to recycle.

I'd have reported it too.

You did the right thing Knip, don't worry.

I hate junk mail as it is, without having a whole streets worth of the stuff dumped in my bin.

Junk mail is classed the same as regular addressed mail to RM so there is a good chance the person will be sacked with the reason 'willful delay of mail'.

you did the right thing, a postman deals with a lot of very important personal information and if they are cutting corners doing there job they shouldnt be doing it, the sack may be a bit extreme but surely they know that was a risk by not doing there job properly.

They won't just sack your postie as there isn't enough evidence, they will however put the cameras on him and fire out some test letters and when he next slips up they will have him and they won't just sack him they will ransack his house and prosecute him if they find enough.

The postman did the right thing in refusing to act in an unethical manner and deliver junk to peoples houses, however he should have dumped it somewhere less noticeable.

I'm 100% with the postie on dumping the junk mail, I hated it when only 30 houses on a street had mail but you had to go into all 100 of them to share the good news about ugly takeaways and the latest offering from sky. Dumping it in a persons non-recyling bin is just poor form and inviting trouble.

The person will probably get fired though, because junk mail is how royal mail makes any money these days and because they know who did which round on which day. They'll do some follow up asking a few houses on the route if they received certain leaflets - if they didn't get any, that proves that it was the posty who had that route who dumped the junk, rather than another postman dumping his junk on someone else's route.

£8 an hour, outdoor work, option to purchase shares, pension... all gone. Blood is on your hands OP, even if the complaint was justified. :p

When I was at DHL we used to get spammed with the Rexel senate catalog to deliver every month, which meant you were faced with literally hundreds of next day deliveries extra on your run.

Its not something I did myself, but more than one driver used to just stop at the first skip and all his catalogs would suddenly become "left as arranged".

Well I had an area manager and the sorting office manager in my house just after 7 this morning.

They asked me to write a statement of how I found the leaflets, they also took photos of the pile of them, and also of where the bin was.

I said I didn't want anyone to be losing their job, their response to that was that they had evidence he had done it before, which is why they were taking it so seriously.
