8 Pack Builds

Got to be a little careful here as the man himself is eight times bigger than I am and surgical collars never come in my colour. I was reading this just now with interest and wondered why the cases are so big. Clearly from the images they could be much much smaller. However I may be missing the point here. He's big, an 8 pack is desirable and so the case follows suit. However I also think the builds could be, christ I swear I can hear an ambulance now, neater! For the premium prices one has to pay to have the performance and the semmingly unfaultable service that follows the sale, I would have expected to see, preformed tubing or copper for the water loops and better hidden or routed cabling. I also think I can see a great number of adapters and extensions. I charge between £100 and £200 for a PC build depending on what is asked for and will custom make all the cables from the PSU and those to the fans. I have even in the past opened a PSU and rotated the IEC connector so the right angle plug hardwired in the RV03 will fit.

You can clearly see here that the IEC plug will not make it. It is too short and would be twisted.

Here the IEC has been removed and reconnected upside down. Now it fits perfectly - just as it should have in the first place.

In this HDD caddy, the position has been changed and a completely custom cable loom made to the right length and spacing needed.

I provide a full year of backup on all my systems and will sort out warranty issues as I keep the receipts. There are risks with mods like this, the big one being no warranty. If the customers says do it and doesn't care then I relish the chance to make things better if I can.

I have never been given the chance to build a system like an 8-pack model so cannot comment on the work involved or the problems and solutions he may face, I would simply have to open the case and tidy it if I was lucky enough to own one.

Right I'm off to hide now!! Nepal looks promising........

Confused if your actually asking why the cases are so big or advertising yourself...

The first is because the case is desirable. If im paying up to 10k for a computer i wouldnt want it in a tiny mITX build. ;)

I had a look at the systems and I cannot see any of the braided cables being "untidy", on the contrary, they are designed to show and look great along with the colors of the builds.

Building a watercooling loop is a bit more complex than changing a power connector on a PSU. I'm great at system builds too, but I wouldn't be able to provide a system with his specs or that kind of precision.

If you look aside from the possible self promotion.... is he right? Could the builds be neater?

It is indeed a brave thing to make comments on a well known and representative or the website/company. I think we should take it at face value that he's making an observation that might help improve things.

I can assure you I am not advertising. I only work for people I actually know and word of mouth. Just as Scougar correctly pointed out, I am making an observation, a personal one. I personally think they could be built neater, not better! The man clearly knows what he is doing. The choice of hardware, why it is chosen, overclocking and maximising the systems potential is not in question. If I was lucky enough to own one, it would be tidied a little, simples.

100-200 pound a hr ill under cut you :D

tbh id buy the bits myself and build myself.

by the way what oc records do you hold ? many ? :p

you pay the premium because he has the experience and can build it. you can make a pretty nice pc but in no way is it as good or ever will be. that's why his are expensive and you wont make them.

do i agree on pricing no but i aint got ten grand to drop on a pc but they are very nice ;)

nice little advertising yourself though i can see the offers flooding in ! not :D

~>DG<~ £100 to £200 per build! As I said I do not advertise. I am fortunate to know a lot of folk with money, but it is only a side line. I am no one special. I just do good custom work.

Records? Me? Absolutely zero. I can build them but I am pretty crap at OCing! I don't understand memory timings etc.

What would I do? Well for a start all the plastic tubing would be replaced with chromed copper. I have the necessary bending tools. I would remake them and then have them chromed. Unless polished copper looked good. All the cables that are not used would be removed. Like Molex and FDD cables. I would also because of the space available form all the cables around some 5mm aluminium rod to make the cables conform to a shape. Naim Hi Fi for example only use solid copper cables and make ninety degree bends in all the cables. You never ever see them but it is done. The cables themselves can then be laced together.

Try not to let this thread get out of hand. I was just making an impression known amongst other enthusiasts.

The power socket on my PSU was the "wrong" way round for my RV03 too. Rather than take apart the PSU, I simply followed the Silverstone rep's suggestion and removed a cable tie that gave more cable to play with and the connector fits perfectly.

As for why 8pack's builds are so special (and priced accordingly) ask yourself whether you'd prefer a Ford that you've built and tuned to hit 180mph, or buy a Ferrari that does the same speed, costs a lot more but looks STUNNING. I know the analogy isn't perfect as you could buy all the parts and build an 8pack PC yourself, but I hope it's close enough to get my point across. Personally, I love knowing I've built and tuned my PC myself, but there is a part of me that knows it will never be as aching beautiful, or jealousy inducing as an 8pack build. If ever I win the lottery, I honestly don't know which way I'd go - no holds barred self build, or 8pack build.

They aren't comparable, Fords and Ferraris use different parts.

All the parts in these custom built PCs are available to buy off the shelf.

That makes a huge difference.

These parts are binned, including the CPU's and Memories, guaranteed to reach the said OC and maybe higher.

Hint me to a retailer besides OCuk that sells binned CPU's off the shelf without putting them into ready systems.

Currently OCuk has one bundle available. The rest are in these systems.

I'm not affiliated with OCuk but I am impressed with that.

You cannot buy these parts off the shelf. You can build a PC that looks the same, but will not perform the same. Like a plastic delorian..

im pretty sure i could find the parts online somewhere....

but thats not the point.

8pack's system's and built for pure power and to demolish any other system.

he hand picks the hardware, builds them, clocks them. along side doing other things like demolishing world records and traveling around the world lol.

yes he could spare and extra hour tidying the cables up ect ect. but your not realy paying for that, your paying for his exp.

and to be honest, i don't think he would have the time to be tidying the cables up.
