Will the 7970 prices fall any further?

So my PSU gets back from RMA today, I've been waiting to order a new screen (Asus PB278Q), and am tempted to get 2x7970 HIS IceQ which are around £260 on TWO (down from £299) are they worth getting now? Or waiting a few extra weeks?

Possibly, Gibbo could get offers on to clear stocks, but that could be any time-if at all.

Considering you can get 3x7950 Ice-Q's for £38 extra, I would say the 7970 Ice-Q's are very poor value in comparison.

YOUR BASKET
2 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) **FREE SHIPPING** £185.99 (£371.98)
Total : £371.98 (includes shipping : FREE).

When my 7970 died from my 7970/7950 CrossFireX setup and just went with another 7950 in CrossFire, I couldn't tell the difference in game at all.

The only GPU that's faster then a 7970 is the 290XT and that 3x more expensive.

There is a company call NVidia that make fast graphics cards as well.

The R9 290X is likely to be around the £500 mark.

I hold the record for the highest overclocked Phenom 2 x6 1075T registered on HWBot in the UK.

And I hold the record for the slowest GTX 680 in the world.:D

7970s have took a little plunge this week no competitor talk!

id save your money and get two of the cards suggested (7950s) most will surpass stock 7970 speeds and have very good coolers.

best bang for buck gpu/gpus.

how much more will the HIS 7970 overclock though?

I so torn LOL

I doubt the prices will fall further. More likely the stock will be gone, and who ever awaits, will be left with the normal "higher" priced R280X (7970) -R280 (7950) at the same performance.

See the GTX690 as an recent example. Is gone, and there were people expecting for it's price to fall before they buy one. Now they query why they are not for sale anymore anywhere.

I don't think they'll drop further.

Trying to decide whether to pick up a 7990 or another 7970.

Used to run 7970's in crossfire, but had issues with microstutter, so not sure if I'll bother with either currently - does anyone know if the 7990's suffer microstuter, or whether its gone due to them being on the same board?

Microstutter on crossfire was fixed for single screen back in August with the 13.8 drivers. Those have since been updated and polished even more. Current latest crossfire drivers are 13.10 Beta 2. Eyefinity/DX9/OpenGL still needs work. Personally ive never experienced any micro stutter on DX9/OpenGL games. Your mileage may vary.

from what I have read, they aren't as fast at higher resolutions? :p
That only applies for the Nvidia 256-bit 2GB cards vs the AMD 384-bit 3GB cards. There's no performance disadvantage for cards like GTX780 at higher res as it as 384-bit and with 3GB of vram (plus the greater GPU grunt).

But we can't really say which would be better for the GTX780 vs the upcoming AMD 290x in terms of both price and performance, until we see some proper reviews for the 290X.

^^^^ as good as a amd reps reply :D

Is matt an amd rep yet? :P

I'm still waiting for the call. :D

Incase anyone in the know is reading...

Well ruling out the next gen based on cost (and better performance with 2 current cards)

And assuming the prices won't fall any further...

How much longer would 2 overclocked 7970s last over likewise 7950s? Worth the jump?

Can't really have 3 7950s... Would be toasty lol!!
