BMW and M Power Owners

Its just reality, but tbh as most modern cars use big wheels you'll never buy anything that's less than about 500 for a full set Of decent rubber anyway!

You don't need to replace runflats with runflats anyway, i bought 255 35 18 eagle f1s for just under 300 for a pair recently, an excellent price IMO

yeah fair enough - for some cars I'm considering (sporty-ish ones) - I can get half-decent tyres for about 90 a corner

I reckon on current car I've spent more on Tyres over the 100k miles I've put on the car than servicing and repairs

I'm looking at all sorts - but just as an example - say for a Mondeo ST220 I could get Falken ZE914s for 89 a corner - in 18 inch size (225/40/18)

same size for say a Octavia VRS too

I know they're different from size to size but out of all the tyres I've tried (Bridgestone PolePositions, Michelin PE2s, Toyos) - the Falkens have been the best

Fallen 9xx are at best a very, very average tyre. They aren't even as good as the 452 which again is only decent, not up there with your continental/ Michelin/ Goodyear

Good 18 inch tyres will cost you roughly 120 a corner in that size

My Potenza runflats lasted absolutely ages on my car - and I dont do a lot of motorway driving and I do like to make progress. Same on my mums car. They barely seem to wear. But the downside with this is that they are terrible grip wise in the wet.

Don't get the "half decent" (crap) Falkens for 90 when you can get the fully decent CS5s or F1A2s for only about £20 more

Service it, get it MOT'd and reword the advert - some ,for example, may be wondering if your including 4 spare wheels and an engine in the sale!!

Keeping the ad short and sweet but with obvious things that need doing soon done should sell it easily.
Otherwise, drop the price, most - myself included - would view the short MOT and impending service as a sign of either a big bill looming or an owner who can't afford to look after it properly.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I've had a 12 month MOT put on and got it booked in for an oil service next Friday, as well as dropping the price to £6,495. I'm hoping the combination of a price-drop and getting the stuff sorted will attract a few buyers.

Thanks will take a look at that :) any rough idea how much it might cost?

Sorry for the delayed reply - was on a weekend break without any 3G signal :(

I believe the actual upgrade is approximately £100 on its own, this will give you the upgraded firmware (Dynamic TMC routing - actively tells you when there's traffic even when there isn't a route mapped in) and upgraded amps. There's also options for RCA Preouts for subwoofers etc, BT streaming, and some others.

This is the eBay link for the guy I used (Baris), but he's well known on a few BMW forums if you wanted to research it a bit more and see some reviews.

Oh well, M5 deal may be off. Had a call from the garage to say my credit check had failed.

It may be due to the fact that i've just returned to the UK after a year of traveling (and then was living in Aus!). Hopefully I can speak to someone to change their mind, I own a property outright, have just secured a good paying job and have never been late with any credit payments.

They have given me an email to contact ([email protected]). I tried calling but unless you have a very specific need they don't have any generalists ready to speak to you. Took me ages to get the above email!

Bounce back from the email addy says it may take up to 5 working days to respond!
That sucks bud, hopefully you can get it sorted!

That's no worries, thanks for getting back to me :)

I didn't realize you just upgrade the existing unit, was thinking you would replace the entire thing! Lol.

Thanks for the link, will take a closer look later and send him a message, Enfield is quite close to me too so would be perfect if he can do a "while you wait" type of service.

I believe he does in fact offer a while you wait type service - he's a top bloke to deal with, I'm pretty sure if you asked, he'd let you hear the one in his car before doing any work or parting with any cash.

A couple of us on BMW Owner forums have had it done by him and we all sing his praises. My BM54 stopped working altogether so I had to get it replaced which was a lot more than the £100 that he charges, but I did ask him to fit the pre-outs so I could run a small subwoofer in the boot.

Highly recommended though and definitely a good place to start before upgrading any speakers and so on.

So I'#m getting quite tempted to buy this:

I know the app radio etc isn't great.

and this (though maybe from BMW instead)

and this (though i'd need to cut/adapt the adapter...):

Plus a facia / steering controls adapter

I guess the question is....is it worth spending £400+ just to have bluetooth and slightly better sound that looks....ok or just live with say a £200 head unit that looks a bit out of place but still gives bluetooth and better sound

can't honestly decide

I've got a crack in my windscreen which is slowly getting larger, it started out as a chip on the very edge on the drivers side but has started cracking across.

Anyone had any joy getting a BMW windscreen out of one of the insurer's nominated windscreen places? I believe my insurer uses Autoglass.

It's previously been changed but whoever fitted it didn't bother fitting the light sensor as it originally came out of the factory, so I've got rain but no auto-lights.

Autoglass will use the same glass as BMW I believe. I had a new windscreen put in mine after a stone chip repair was damaged further by the Autiglass guy so they gave me a new windscreen which was as far as I could see, identical in every way.

Edit*
Mine has the rain/light sensor too.
