This happened yesterday at 11:35 AM, I got in from work shortly afterwards. My Dad was reversing a car out of his garage at the time and our next door neighbour was walking by, she saw it happen as well as a guy waiting at the bus stop over the road. We also have it on CCTV though the plates are not readable.

Basically my car is parked on the road, left hand side pointing towards the end of our cul-de-sac, a girl from down the street in a Suzuki Swift clipped my front wing and bumper by turning across into my car as she got the end of the road to pull out onto the main road. She didn't stop at all, though the video shows her stopping briefly and rolling back slightly before driving off.

I went down later when she was back from work, her car has a matching scrape on the rear quarter, she denied it completely and said the dent was already there. I said I have CCTV and 2 witnesses, she then said if she did then she didn't notice, we asked if she had her stereo on but she said no. Her mum came out too and said her Dad would come up and have a look at my car and talk to us. He hasn't been up yet and he left for work late this afternoon so he's had plenty of time.

This family is a bit rough, should I just report it to the police? Already called them yesterday and they said they have 24 hours to report it.

A local body shop said about £150 to paint and straighten my front wing. I don't mind if they'd rather pay cash and not go through her insurance.

As it's her fault, I'd be inclined to go through her insurance if they decide to try and cause you any bother - it won't have any knock-on effects for you.

Except for the very likely increase in insurance premiums for the next 5 or so years.

Go round this evening and say you've had a quote for £150 to repair it. You have 24 hours to pay this or it will be reported to the police and you'll be claiming on her insurance.

any knock-on effects for you.

I was side swiped by a drunken driver. The police attended and he was breathalysed and arrested on the roadside.

I claimed through his insurance and the result was a non fault claim with my insurance.

I now pay £80 more a year on my insurance because I am deemed a higher risk. I claimed no injury expenses and my car was repaired.

@OP. I would try for non insurance first, but in my experience the insurance will load your premium for three years.

It shouldn't effect me but unfortunately it does. My car is actually for sale as I have a company car now so I may not have my own insurance for a few more years.

I already told them it was £150 repair yesterday, I think if they were going to come up they would have already. I might just go to the police station now and report it.

If it's on the offender's insurance why would it affect the OP's insurance premiums?

Because as soon as you reply yes to the 'non-fault claims' question on your insurance you are deemed statistically more likely to have another accident than someone without a non-fault claim, therefore you pay more for your premium.

I would go tell them you are doing this first before going to the Police, see if they pay up.

Sorry having a bit of trouble picturing it in my head, she turned onto the main road from your cul-de-sac road and clipped your car while swinging out? would that not mean you were parked illegally on a T junction? not trying to be a jerk it's just I would have thought that would then apportion part of the blame on you too.

Forgive me if I'm being a bit blonde here, but if the left hand side of your car is pointing at the end of the road, then how on earth did you park it?
