*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

What the above said I had the same problem last week I went back on myiiPhone you have to put the sim back in so it registers the number turn imessage off wipe your stuff of it manually to be sure then reset the phone. I also went on the Apple website and unregistered the device and it worked

think i have it sorted now, deactivated imessage on my macs and old iPhone and unregister the iphone on the icloud devices. time will tell

What happens if you no longer have access to the old iPhone? I've got an iPhone contract sim that'll be used in an Android phone soon but I've already sold the 4s and didn't switch off imessage! Doh!

hi s4 users,

anyone got idea on the pop up warning about the prevention information something something? My da sees its most of the time when using the facebook app and i havent got a single clue on why its happening as its the first time ive seen it. My nexus 4 doesnt have that warning so i assume its specific to the s4

thanks

I wont be an S4 owner for much longer, passing it on to my sis.

If I wanted to return the phone to stock would I just need to flash a stock rom via odin?

Will my flash counter be reset?

I've used triangle away in the past on my S3s, there's probably something similar for the S4.

If not, I doubt very much you'll experience any issues getting service if it's stock.

FYI i just removed my spigen neo hybrid and put a diztronic TPU case on,

the difference in how the phone holds is like night and day, the spigen looks nice, but adds far too much width

Cool. Will service center care if stick on a pre rooted stock ROM via odin?

If you're on the older unlocked bootloader then reset the binary counter with triangle away and flash stock. If you're on the locked bootloader, later than MGA, then it's a bit more complicated.

Samsung? Root will void any repair under warranty. Though it shouldn't (another story).

More on KNOX warranty void

Bad news everyone! I've been hearing more from people in places associated with Samsung, and it is becoming more likely that this KNOX status is indeed an eFuse. I might talk to some Samsung guys myself this weekend, if there's anything interesting about that, I'll let you know.

Worse than that, I've also been hearing that service center instructions are indeed that devices with this status tripped will not receive any warranty repairs. (Of course, the action they take may still depend on the service center). Their excuse is that the hardware is damaged by the owner. Seems Samsung is catching up in scumbaggery to HTC, who years ago attributed my HTC Diamond's screen damage (digitizer detached) to the installation of HSPL :)

To anyone in the know it is obvious that this doesn't really fly, and the eFuse blowing (is this the hardware damage?) is intentionally done by the bootloader when unsigned software is loaded. One could even argue against the legality of that under EU regulations.

Anyway, of course there's that EU regulation (1999/44/CE) that is generally interpreted so that rooting/flashing may not break hardware warranty. As I've said again and again, this may be true, and you may be legally entitled to free repairs but this doesn't necessarily mean they'll actually repair your device.

Warranty needs to be provided by the seller, not by the manufacturer. The shop will usually depend on the manufacturer's warranty, though that's really none of your business or concern - your deal is with the seller. The shop will send you (or your device) to a service center, which may not be OEM operated or owned (but licensed instead) and are furthermore under no obligation whatsoever to repair your device if they don't want to. And if their instructions say to not repair in case X, then they will not, as the OEM will not reimburse them for the parts.

The shop will just tell you that the OEM says your breakage isn't covered by the warranty, and that will be that. You will have to slap said shop around a bit with EU regulations, and possibly take them to court before they will repair/replace your device. Even if you take them to court, and if you win (I've not seen or heard from such a case winning yet), you'd just be hurting the shop, it has no effect on the OEM, and you've probably spent a lot more time and money than you would've just buying a new device.

Only the OEM wins in this scenario, which is pretty sad, really.

Of course, I am not a lawyer, so take all this with a grain of salt.

Cheers. Im still on MEA baseband - aosp PAC rom.

So step by step:

1. Reset flash counter via Triangle away

2. Flash a/(ANY? Phone was originally EE branded) stock ROM via ODIN - Anyone got any links to fast stock rom DL's?

So those steps should return the phone to fully stock right? Recovery, flash counter and ROM wise.

If they cared about flashing then yes I'm sure pre rooted will be an issue.

That should do it, I don't fully understand this efuse thing but I know triangle away was enough to sort an S3, also to be honest it often depends on what mood the service centre are in and if the phone will power up at all. Clearly if it's dead as a dodo then they won't be able to tell if it's been flashed.

It really does annoy me how hard they try and get out of warranty claims, to my untrained eye it's so incredibly unlikely that a software flash would cause what is obviously a hardware problem it's untrue.

By all means have a service centre flash something entirely back to stock and fully reset if you suspect unstable software might be causing issues but refusing service altogether on products that almost invite hackery is a bad PR move if you ask me.

Still, they'll just push the likes of us towards nexus devices/oppos etc etc.

Sooner or later a mfr will figure out that supporting this sort of thing is cool, Sony Ericsson have gone close, shame their kit is generally crap to start off with.

If your EE phone is unlocked and you flash the unrooted version I don't see why not. My internal S4 notifies me that I have updates available on my rooted and modded GE ROM, I just can't install them because it kicks me into my custom recovery but it still thinks its a GE version.

FYI i just removed my spigen neo hybrid and put a diztronic TPU case on,

Notice any scratches on the back of the S4? - I'm well pee'd off - Had mine in the spigen neo hybrid case since I got it and just took it off the other day to see TONS of scratches on the back of my phone - grrrrr!!!

Cheers.

If I install BTU on a EE phone will I still be able to get OTA's?

And MH1 is pre KNOX right?

Yes you'll get OTA's if you install stock BTU on an EE phone (thats what I've got at mo and it kept prompting me to install MI8!) - best to run triangleaway before doing it to ensure the flash counter is 0.

MI1 has locked bootloader - avoid like the plague!

Oh and I agree - after this locked bootloader, and poor camera performance I'm contemplating flogging it to get the N5
