Mega textures push Call of Duty: Ghosts on PC to 50GB

COD still sells incredibly well on all platforms, it shouldn't but it does because it's like BMW, still living off their old image.

I dunno I think a lot of the reason is that the layer between you and the gameplay is a lot more seamless than just about any other game - I love playing BF4 and all but my enjoyment of it is always tempered by feeling like I'm fighting the engine as much as the other players (as per my edit above).

Sadly though I suspect I'd be just as happy if not happier playing COD4 as MW4 (ghosts) as it will probably be more of the same just a bit prettier and more gimmicks.

Sounds like you need Mantle Rroff. ;)

Mantle won't help make basic game mechanics feel less instrusive and more fluid or improve the nature of the "netcode".

You should put the networking smoothing factor to 0%, or the far left. Just incase you don't already. :)

Good point indeed, tonne of games that are optimized well but lacking in gameplay to keep you there.

GTA V biggest selling game ever even though it runs and looks like dog poo compared to a modern PC game, the gameplay and features though are basically 2nd to none.

Tbh I couldn't care less if one side gets an extra 5-10fps from mantle if that's all it adds to the experience, if it adds new effects then it's a different story and can entice people just like PhysicX does.

Seems to me like moving to Windows 8.1 will give BF4 players the biggest jump in performance.

Hey I'm getting ready to built new system.

I was planning on using my old 8gb samsung green do you think I should go 16gb instead for future proofing?

My rig will be an i7 and either 290 or 780.

Tried it but atleast in the beta theres too many side effects with players jerking or appearing in the wrong place for a moment if I turn it down below ~30%.

So they're just throwing loads of hi res textures to try and take away from the fact that the engine was around before Moses?

Seriously how many more years can this company milk this engine? Its like they're afraid to go with something new in-case it doesn't retain the same feel or they're unable to duplicate the same feel. Its not like they're short of cash to buy an engine to use or make their own. They just seem to keep tacking on updates to keep it on life support for another couple of years.
