Finally we have more information regarding Might and Magic X - Legacy, and going by the video above they are going back to what made Might and Magic great. Epic dungeon crawling in a first person view point and no this isn't Heroes, with it's top down view. We have mentioned before the earlier teaser and what might be shown at Pax, so it's great to see hints of what might come our way. Although as it's published by Ubisoft, I do have my concerns of hardline DRM and online connections, so let's hope the developers Limbic Entertainment really push out a great title.

Ubisoft DON'T SCREW THIS ONE UP!!!

It's most likely the discussions they had with the developers of the fan based sequel that was in development.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one though :D

Might & Magic X Legacy

anyone looking forward to this?

looks good, story so far,

Today, Ubisoft announced Might & Magic X Legacy. Developed by Limbic Entertainment, a team of devoted Might & Magic fans, Might & Magic X Legacy brings a new chapter to the Might & Magic RPG series, with both the unique core formula and a new set of improved and fine-tuned features.

In the wake of the spectacular events in Might & Magic Heroes VI, you will play in a party of four adventurers entangled in intrigue and political machinations unfolding in and around Karthal. The city, on the verge of secession, is prey to competing factions vying for its control. Your actions will determine the fate of the city. Might & Magic X Legacy is an authentic solo experience in the classic first-person RPG genre. Create and lead your group into an exciting world and battle powerful mythical creatures while collecting ancient magical treasures. Through a turn-based gameplay system, defeat creatures and bosses to accomplish unique quests and make your way through dangerous dungeons, cities and labyrinths full of traps. Dive into vintage Might & Magic and play old school, new rules!

In mid March we teased you with Might and Magic X - Legacy via Ubisoft's announcement, and here comes the first cam video from Pax. This looks like it could be a great Dungeon Crawler RPG, going back to what made Might and Magic great, and not towards Messiah! However going by the video, I'm a little concerned that he didn't stray from the path as if that was the only way to go, we shall see. There are also feedback posts coming back from Pax to tell us a bit more about the game itself.

:D Ubisoft better not *** this one up

Might and Magic VI is still my favourite game of all time. VII & VIII were great, IX was a bit meh... Looking forward to this though.
Concerned though, Ubisoft will do their best to make this unplayable.

Anyone grabbed the Alpha on Steam yet? I am very tempted, wasted so many hours on this series over the years.

Would buy it now but away this weekend so hoping someone might shed some light first :)

I would have if it was £9.99, but £19.99 for an alpha with most of the content not in is a bit high. Still, looking forward to it though :)

^ Agree with that. If it was under £15 I'd probably have it. £19.99 is on the high side for an alpha release. :(
Still tempted, could do with a bit of Might & Magic over the weekend.

IF anybody gets it give a quick review, I've been eying it up but don't want to spoil the game by playtesting it (if it's really bad atm).

Couldn't resist as I love these games - bought it this morning, going to play it some this afternoon so if you can hang on until then I'll play for a while and give you a run down. What I did notice when I bought it was that it gave me Might & Magic VI for free.

Was going to buy this until I saw that it's using UPlay...

Is UPlay still as bad as I've heard?

Not really, people like to exaggerate.

I've had some issues now and again with Anno when the Anno servers were down which sucked but that game had lots of server side information you needed. Assassin's Creed 3 issues was more with the game being buggy that anything else. With MMX you just login via the uPlay launcher and press play. Although of course if uPlay servers are down, you won't be able to log in - I'm not sure if you can bypass the launcher or not, but I doubt it as it's a form of DRM.

The launcher is pretty slimline now, it's just a small login page and after that it's just a small window with a store page for the game information and a couple of menus.

flibby, stop posting and get playing !!! we need info :p

I'm torn between Might & Magic X or Guardians of Middle Earth, too many games and not enough time in the day !

First few hours:

First, it's all ran through uPlay so when you load it up in Steam it just loads the uPlay launcher and then you log into there to be able to start the game. I don't really mind but I know some would. You can log in to the uPlay launcher now and the next time you run it, it'll remember all your details (incl. password) so you aren't bugged to log in every time you play. Also you get a free copy of Might & Magic VI (Classic, not Heroes) when you buy it off Steam.

Your team is preset so you can't really do much with it. You can "make your own team" but there are limited options at the moment so you can't change class/race combos. Okay so that bit was wrong, I checked out the character creation more and it's more in depth than I thought as I didn't see the extra tabs. You can customise the skills and abilities of each character you want to create and also chose things like voice. You cannot however do race/class changes other than the default. You can change team genders and you have a few portraits to pick from. The game movement feels pretty solid, it's a typical forward/back, turn left/right, strafe left/right movement system that is grid based. It wasn't too hard to navigate around or control my team.

The day/night cycles which are really really really short as they are bound to character movement so the move blocks you move the faster it goes by, but stuff like this is what opendev is for. When you move 12 blocks (not including turn left/right, only forward/back/strafe) it advanced 1 hour so you can easily spend half a day just getting from the inn to the town exit. Didn't see any options for pen and paper mode which is a shame, I much prefer that style. There is no voice acting that I can tell other than then opening cinematic, the noises you hear are more grunts and moans. The music is very nice though, the ambient noises are okay.

The game is super intensive. I can't run at max settings with 2500k / HD7850 / 8GB DDR3 at 1360x768 as I get slowdowns here and there. The game also seems to be jittery - like micro stuttering, but I'm not sure if this is just me. The game font is a bit weird - it's like it's meant for a higher resolution and since I play on my TV at 1360x768 the text looks like it's been scaled down rather than reduced in point size. At 1024x768 the text was unreadable (which was annoying as that is what the game started in so I had to guess-click a bunch of menus).

There are loads of lore and story stuff that I've came across. Combat seems decent but I've only had a few fights. It's all turn based (so you get 4 turns, one of each member of your party) and you're locked into position when something reaches you in melee - but until then you can move freely with things chasing you. Quests are good and most of the ones I've found you need to actually go looking for - such as visit homes in the town or go off the beaten path. There are bugs that I found, most aren't game breaking and are more annoying than anything.

I've not finished the first act (which is all the content you get at the moment) but apparantly it comes in around 10 hours long for a standard play, if you're an avid explorer like myself, you'll probably bump it up a bit more. There are also pre-order bonuses for getting the alpha if you're interested, you can check them out here (note: the Steam version is the deluxe digital).

Edit: Played a couple more hours and I really like it after getting more used to the game and the combat system, it has potential to be excellent. One annoying bug is where one of your guys is knocked unconscious and it says to rest to bring them back, but you have to rest, save then reload the whole game again to fix it. Not game breaking as mentioned earlier but so annoying :p

First update was released recently, fixed a lot of bugs, changed some things like the day/night cycle and added 4 new classes. Also just in case anyone is interested. You can also get the Digital Deluxe with early access for £15 at the moment from GMG with code: GMG25-7VBH8-67CAC.

Just a heads up, this is supposed to be launched tomorrow, not sure if it's midnight release tonight or 6pm tomorrow though.

Hope it's as good as part 7 was.:D
