Gratitude these days!

Before the first hanging up, I would have told them I was going to the customer services desk and was going to ring them back from there in 2 minutes and get one of the women at the desk to corroborate the story. Then ask for the phone back to hear their grovelling apology before making my way home with a packet of midget gems I couldn't resist buying from the stand next to the customer services desk.

I've never understood people who react like this, but then I suppose their IQ must be lower than average. Who would steal a phone & then ring a contact on it to help to return it? I'd have probably "accidentally" run it over on the way out of the car park.

Lots of people advocating littering in this thread. Please use a bin. Bushes, rivers, oceans etc. are not acceptable places to dispose of rubbish.

I'm pretty sure I'd wimp out and give it to the cs desk at the store. not the police station as I think CS have to destroy the phone after a while so the ungrateful cretins would have to get a move on to get it back.

A couple of years ago my daughters came home at 10am in the morning from a festival with a lost password protected iPhone so I took charge to get it back to the owner.
The first text came about 30 minutes later "Give my mate her phone back" and on & on it went all day & evening.
'Katy where are you, I'm worried?' was one of several texts from her Dad but not once did the phone ring so I could bloody answer it.
Why can't people ring?
Anyway, about 8pm after a torrent of abuse somebody came on with a really peculiar Facebook name eg Princess Diabolus Musica so I thought that would be easy to stalk as long as she didn't know how to use Facebook properly.
I found her and found Katy who had been talking about her stolen phone so I Facebook messaged at least 20 of her friends asking just one of them to ring the bloody phone so I could answer it.
Not one replied but I still got abusive texts asking for Katy's phone back.
I went to bed and about midnight the phone actually started to ring (HURRAH somebody with sense) but it was her real Dad in America wanting to talk to her.
I explained my frustration of not one person ringing the phone and he said he would ring her Mum (ex wife) in Liverpool to arrange a return.
About 01:30 :( the phone rings and it is Katy's Step Dad having a go at me for stealing the phone and he says it is a setup etc.
I finally convince him my daughters found it at Leeds festival and Katy arranges to pick it up.
Katy came the following day, my youngest answered the door and Katy said "I was going to buy you a bottle of vodka but I needed petrol money, thanks, bye"

Short version
I got a phone back to it's owner after 14 hours of not one person ringing the bloody phone.

Can't remember what show I saw this in...basically if texting was inventing first and phone calls came second, people would think is some magical voodoo that allows you to actually TALK to each other instantaneously !

I have returned a couple of phones to people are the gratitude was somewhat lacking in both cases. This was years ago but neither of them were massively grateful.

In your situation OP I would probably have told the guy that because he was being such a complete end piece I am putting the phone down on the floor now under the nearest cars wheels and described where in the car park I was and then left him on the line and walked away.

I have absolutely no issue with people who are ***** getting what they deserve. People like that don't learn from kindness, they just equate your kindness to you being scared of their horrible nature.

I found a brand new iPhone 5 a few months ago on a bench in a shopping centre...debated with myself for about 2 minutes whether to make some cash from it or return it, decided to return it :p About 10 minutes later it rang - man was looking for his wife - I told him I just found the phone. Luckily he was only about 100m away with their kid and I guess for some reason had split up with the wife. Met him and got a nice thank you, all sorted.

If a similar thing to the OP had happened, I would have just sold it.

Why? Why do these people deserve such courtesy?

It's a question of your own morality. Do you do the right thing because it's the right thing to do, or because someone is going to be grateful to you?

Sure, in the OP's case, these people are *********, but should that make you behave like them, or should you do what you think is right, and help them out regardless?

It's difficult to claim a moral high ground if a few nasty words are going to make you behave as badly as them and dance on the poor girl's phone, even though you know it's the wrong thing to do. Or do you take the view that these people deserve to be treated the way they treat others, and that's where your moral standards level out?

Personally, I would likely have shrugged my shoulders and left the phone, or binned it. If they want to behave like uncivilised animals, then they can get treated that way. I'm not going to put myself out for people who just make life harder with a bad attitude. Life's too short for that ****. But my moral compass (such as it is) takes into account the fact that we really only care about the people we know.

1) loose phone

2) Get friends phone

3) login to wheres my phone app or alternative

4) drive around until there is one car in front of you that seems to be the origin of the signal, after following for 10 minutes and confirming it.

5) overtake car and force him to a stop

6) get out go over and upon seeing the phone on the dash shout, "why didnt you pick up the phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" take phone and leave.

Install Cerberus
Return phone
Take naughty time pictures/videos of Katey
Send aforementioned pictures/videos from Katey to Katey's dad, along with message to "boyfriend" followed by message to dad of "oops, that wasn't meant for you!"
Video ensuing chaos
Post on Youtube for the lolz?

I have so many ideas, now I just need to find a lost phone.... XD

If Katey is under 16 you'd be guilty of producing child pornography!

They'd love you in prison and the sex offenders register is for life.
