Competitions - Do you enter them?

Used to. Used loquax. Would only enter simple ones with name, email, phone address and made full use of auto fill forms etc.

Used to win two or 3 prizes per month. Ranged from books, to garden fountain, stakeboard, torches, dab radio, dvds, tickets for shows and my best prize was a top of the range Sony TV.

They do say that in this country for every man woman and child there are 17 prizes per year to be won and I can beleive it looking at competion websites and then all the ones on food items etc.

That means some people win loads. I used to work with a guy where his wife would enter the harder competitions invovling tie braekers etc which I guess less people enter. In the few years I knew him, she won, a washming machine, dryer, two new cars, a caravan and a couple of holidays.

No as you need a facebook or twitter account most of the time. :(

These people who enter 30+ a day are entering comps for very low value things most of the time, like 1 £15 blu ray or 2 tickets to a zoo for the day.

Things that if I honestly wanted, I would just buy.

I use http://www.competitions-time.co.uk/

The vast majority of their comps are for decent things like holidays, tablets, TV's and decent cash prizes. I go on each day and enter the ones which are closing that day. Dont take long and i'm hoping I'll come up trumps soon.

But i'm not going to give up an hour of my day, every day, just to win a book

I used to do the occasional gadget competitions - because of their visibility, I presume the chances of winning is slim to none.

Saying that, the last thing I won from a gadget website was Sony's 'psp phone'.

My mum used to get bored and enter loads of them, she was on a lot of the competition sites.

Every few days there would be something new like DVD's, make up, hampers, gift vouchers. I can't recall the best thing as I lived in Oz the last few years but there was always good stuff but it takes a LOT of work.

She mainly did it because she was bored but she'd give anything she won to me/friends/family.

I've won a proper mountain bike and a nice zone 3 wetsuit in just about the only two proper ones I can remember entering. I like the occasional Facebook one too.

That site looks pretty good as far as the competitions go like you've said, think I'll give it a go.

Cheers :)

As a kid/teenager, I entered in many competitions and prize draws from quiz books, comics and magazines. Never got a sniff. A publisher did go round my old primary school though to create a new joke book. Anyone whose joke got printed in the final book got given a free copy, and mine did get printed. Pretty much the only thing I've won. Oh, I did get a bottle of wine from a tombola but I was underaged and the grandparents (who were with me) had it.

I had a spell of "comping" about a year ago. Got propper anally retentive about it too - even created a spreadsheet with all the details of comps entered like the prize, end date, date entered, q&a etc etc. I must have entered 300-400 (possibly more) competitions over the period of a couple of months and started to have semi waking dreams of winning umpteen ipads and 50" tvs and where would I find room to keep them....* :(
Never needed to clear the spare room in the end as all I ever won was a Mission Impossible boxset which still has the plastic wrapper on it now. The irony of it is that I have no record of having entered a MI competition. OoOooooh!

Top tip - if you're going to enter comps set up a new email account you use only for competitions - I learned this the hard (spam!) way.

* oh, and the other was "...but I already have a car and I don't know if I'd be OK reverse parking a Jaaag estate I'm going to win in my alocated parking space...."

I don't actively seek out these things, but if I buy something and am asked to fill in a survey after, the presence of a prize draw is often the deciding factor as to whether I will or not.

I enter the ones on here where I don't have to put much effort in. If it's 'design a ..' or something then I have better things to enjoy my time doing :p :p

I don't go looking around the net for things to enter.

My mum uses that site to enter competitions. Started earlier this year.

Most prizes shes won have been pretty forgettable, but here are the good ones that I can remember:

£3k Instant Hot/Chilled/Sparkling water tap
Rockness Festival tickets
Beehive
£300 chair

Winning a beehive. Amazing!
