OMG Thief 4!

Gutted as the reboot looks further from the original series than expected, so much so it seems the dev team are actively removing/dumbing down the bits that made the series iconic. Been aware of this for a while but that image sums it up well..

I wonder if a lot of this rubbish that they are putting in, especially the focus, can be switched off.

I am getting fed up every time I read an interview. Basically (as that good summary shows) they do not want any player to feel challenged, they want everyone to play the whole game. May as just make it into a film, or a couple of hour QTE.

The quote that got me going most was how they did not want to penalise those folk that could not be bothered reading anything in the game. Now I feel that if you read things you should be rewarded, not the other way around.

The game could still be a lot of fun but getting more disappointing.

Well to me it looks quite close to the original, but overhauled. But they've changed 2 aspects, And they're both similar and take away from the original in the same way.

A game called, thief, where you're a thief, and they've made it so you dont have to play as a thief.... What?

And the offensive skills, I dont mind harsh take downs of unsuspecting foes, or even the ability to stand toe to toe with 1 opponent. But from the sounds of that write up, you can fend off multiple foes. That's taking away the point of the game.

It's sneak and steal.

I'm expecting this to be above average at best. As much as we might want them to, I just don't see them delivering a great game.

The issues I have is the dumbing down: I want to be that player that overhears NPCs talking and find out where extra loot is; I want to be able to use the 3D world as I want to without needing context prompts; I dont expect to be as capable as guards when in combat, Im a thief not an assassin; I dont need to be shown the level at the start, let me work out/discover the multiple ways to get to the objective...

So much theyve done to make it accessible, but thats totally killed why the originals were so good. Now I know that a series like Tomb Raider needed an overhaul to get it back on track as it was waining badly, but Thief just isnt in need of that kinda overhaul, it just needed a competent developer that was confident enough to keep its mechanics near enough the same...

That is a good point, playing the others you were terrified of the guards, give them a swift blackjack if you want but otherwise avoid. The new developers themselves have said he is more like a ballet dancer as a character. It would seem that they have created a ballet dancing one man army who doesn't really want to steal anything.

Same, it's one I'll need a demo before making a decision on and even then probably would wait until it's £20 or less.

Let's just say this isnt a game for people that enjoyed the first two games looking at the preview discussion

A greater problem than charging guards was the thumping soundtrack that kicked in whenever the alarm was raised, music a little too loud for someone who is trying to pick up clues from their environment. Gone are the strange buzzes and infra sounds of old, the clack of boots on cobble, the whispers on the wind.:( taken from eurogamer, think ill give this a miss

I've never played a Thief game before but it's on my pre-order list on ShopTo, been reading around and everyone seems kinda disappointed with the game. Now I don't know if I should cancel the pre-order and wait for reviews, if it's only average I could wait until a price drop.

Really looking forward to this game, idolised Thief:Gold when I was younger, and I haven't saw anything to say I won't have fun with this title. Should be a fun platinum while I wait for inFamous.

Was going to post the same thing. I would prefer if they made it extremely reliant on stealth, so if you got caught by a guard you were basically dead. This game has basically already been made in the form of Dishonoured, so they should have made it a proper stealth game game rather than some Dishonoured/Assassin's Creed rehash.
