Best PSU option for this mini ITX case

http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-q08/

What sort of spec are you putting into it to need such a large wattage?

Well, I was planning on the AMD A10-6800K Black Edition and the MSI GeForce GTX 760 . I dont really know if 750 is too much/ too little, but that seemed to be pretty mid range so i took a guess. please tell me if this is too much or too little :D.

EDIT: the graphics card is subject to change depending on budget nearer the time, as i will most likely but this separately.

An APU with a GTX760 is an odd choice, the main idea of an APU is that it can play games without a discrete card moderately well (as long as you dont crank the resolution and in game settings up too high).

If you are adding a decent GFX card like the GTX760 this CPU+Mobo will be a better combo,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4430 3.00GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £139.99
1 x Gigabyte H87N-WIFI Intel H87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard £101.99
Total : £252.78 (includes shipping : £9.00).

Then a quality 500W+ PSU will power the lot without drama.

Yeah. Im 16 and can barely afford the thing as it is. My intention being I buy the APU, then as and when I can afford it get the GFX card. But i see exactly what your saying.

Even a 500W PSU would provide a nice amount of headroom. :)

Thanks.

Do you have any budget and/or specific requirements in mind for this PC build?

We could help with the specification :)

Me and my friends are building identical computers. With me being the leader since (although from this thread you wouldn't know it) I know the most about computers etc.

we are planning on spending towards the lower end of £400-£500.

the only requirements are that it is in this case (Well, atleast a mini ITX case since all of us want to be able to move our PCs about to eachothers houses etc). And that it will run DayZ when it eventually comes out xD.

TBH we'll all be happy if we can run all the games we want at a steady 60fps on med-high graphics.

Any good?

*there is a A88X FM2+ version of that board coming sometime, this will hopefully give you support for the next generation of APU's called Kaveri as well as previous FM2 Trinity+Richland.

*maybe actually put a Seasonic/Antec 520W PSU in there?

Something to consider: Whilst the Prodigy and Phenom ITX's are a good price I wouldn't class them as ITX builds, as the mATX versions are the exact same size.

There's nothing wrong with them, they're lovely cases, I just don't think they're as portable as a proper ITX case, however, they are cheaper and you've got a budget to work to. Also if you went with the mATX version it would give you a larger and potentially slightly cheaper set of motherboards as well.

hmmm. can i ask why you went for the smaller AMD processor? If i take out the CD drive (I have one) I can get the processor i was originally going for only upping the price by £5. If that makes sense.

We've decided on the case i linked earlier and plan to stick to it. Stop suggesting cases! xD

Sure,

The 5800K is £20 less and comes with a voucher for Sim City, the 6800K isn't fast enough to warrant the xtra, I've had both and I still have the 5800K.

The other thing that was wrong with the 6800K was its blatant refusal to run with RAM set to 2400MHz via XMP profile while the 5800K eats it up.

APU's GFX performance relies on RAM speed as it uses the system RAM just like a GFX card uses it own memory.

But not a small build :p

If the OP doesn't mind having a larger case, then we can all give it another go :3

Well for the sake of a few cm, as the Phenom/ Prodigy isn't that much smaller than the Asgard Pro, I would get this.
