WARNING: anyone considering sky broadband

Line fault, noise on line, REIN, etc etc.

It's not Sky's fault, it'll be BT somewhere along the line as it's their infrastructure Shirley.

Connect router to test socket and post stats.

Nail/Head

Get a different provider :)

Check yer setup first, if you go to another DSL provider you'll likely be on the exact same line anyway so if theres a fault with the line it will likely continue with another provider.

+1 and LOL shirley :p

As the above have posted mate post yer router stats.

I was with sky for almost 2 years at my last property, had them here for a year too, only changed as I get free BB thru work. when I was with them other than a faulty router they were rock solid.

Do Not do it.

Over the past I've been experiencing terrible download and upload speeds, for reference I pay £25 for 20mb broadband. Over the last 4 weeks it has been dropping connection from 20mb to 15mb 3 weeks ago to today, it is sitting at 1mb download and 0.14 upload. Ridicules, Having spoken to sky they mention they are "optimizing" the line. (I'm assuming what they meant, was that there seeing how much broadband I use and reducing it to a level "cap" to which I may not go over) but Being that I play games and use youtube - vimeo and other such sites, we have had no end of trouble... (Don't get me started with trying to download the AMD 13.10 drivers.... 4 hours for a 256mb file... gee thanks sky).

/Rant Over.

Ok thanks for the heads up.

I'm just off to cancel my FREE Broadband (getting 18mb on a 20mb line)... brb

I had a mare with sky, left for o2 and it was fine, sky bought o2 so i left for plusnet fibre :D

We've been with them for 9 years, never had a problem apart from East-Asian ****** support.

Well that's what I thought about Skys' CS people but whenever I've rang them I've spoken to Irish people who have been great help and never rude, moany etc. Can't fault it to be honest.

And so it begins............

O2 are migrating the connections over to Sky now (during October) and my connection is poo. Should be on 20mb and at this minute its connected at 5 :(

Is it not the case that Sky Broadband start you off at a lower speed and then build it up over a period of days to the fastest but most stable speed they can provide? That could explain the drop in your speeds?

This happened with ours when we signed up with Sky BB.

As said by several people above, its more than likely an issue with your internal phone extension wiring or BT's wiring as opposed to sky being at fault. Plug into your test socket as shown here (http://www.hmmm.ip3.co.uk/bt-master-socket-nte5.shtml) and see if your speed increases as well as posting your router stats for someone on here to analyse.

Not had any problem with sky, and I think we'll only have paid for 6 months out of having them for 24 months when this contract ends.

The speeds here are **** anyway, and they're not that different to what I got with BT (but ping did decrease from 80ms to 60ms at pretty much all times of the day). Plus, since they're now 'installing' FTTC, the speeds seem to have halved for everyone i've spoke to.

Left the modem off all day and turned it back on. Connecting at 20mb now. Had 2 days of slow connection, hopefully sorted now. Cheers chaps!

Had my basic package for a year, 2mb/s download speed whole time.
Had a problem once but that was a line upfrade in neighbourhood and they fixed it within 1-2 days.
