Got a bad cold? DON'T GO INTO WORK YOU SELFISH ****

I guess you'll be taking at least Monday off OP as the cold will still be in your system. Better take Tuesday just to be sure.

And wednesday, thursday friday ... hell just quit your job and never leave the house. A cold. Bless.

You're all missing the point. A cold never exists for man, it's always the flu no matter what :D

LOL :D Have seen a few blokes saying how they have the flu and go into work. Having had the flu once I try telling them that they wouldn't be on their feet but the man flu is still alive and kicking. Same goes for a migraine (mild headaches).

I was thinking the exact same thing about 2 weeks ago when some fat pig thought she was amazing coming in to work full of a cold.

then passes it to everyone else in the office.

selfish very selfish indeed.

Once had an old work colleague come to a Xmas works dinner with the flu, he didn't eat hardly anything but everybody got the bug a few days later, needless to say he was not popular in the new year when we all went back to work, after being ill all over the Xmas break. Me if I have a stinking cold/manful I stop at home, and I am self employed.

This

I would also be surprised if being exposed on a Friday would give you a cold by today unless your immune system was already very low. Not that I am a doctor so feel free to ignore :-)

And this

I'm sure you haven't caught a cold within 24 hours of someone passing it to you. You could also have picked it up anywhere such as public transport, supermarket, family member etc etc.

Unless you physically can't get out of bed then you go to work in my book. We need to toughen up as a work force.

Man up princess :D:p;)

You caught the virus somewhere else.

Colds and Flu (which it isn't) - have a far longer incubation period - and if you think your immune system was compromised in less than 24 hours due to a common ailment - you have more things to be worrying about ;)

I recently caught a cold from my boss who seemed to want to have more chats whilst she was ill which usually involved her saying, in a pathetic voice "I don't feel well". I never had any time off, though I would have loved to stay in bed, but its only a cold.

Sickness or diarrhoea is a different matter, especially at my place as its a food factory.

If I'm ill I'll make the effort and go into work then it's upto them if they wish to send me home or not.

It's just a cold (not that I can speak from experience really as I haven't really had one since I was a kid, even then I never had any time off school :().

If it was flu then I can understand - but a cold isn't really a big deal.

Normally I would agree with you but there are currently some really nasty colds going around here which, whilst they aren't the flu (of course), they are knocking people out (incapacitating coughing fits, swollen tonsils making it difficult to swallow), do severely affect your ability to do much work.

Fortunately I have the option for working from home so I just do that if I am feeling rough ... best of both worlds, I don't go into the office and infect other people and I can still get some stuff done.

Blame the companies that frown on it, or issue warnings for a certain number of sicknesses.

No brown-nosing involved - I value the money my job provides.

My work policy tries to blame me for every illness I have. It isn't an option to take a day off for a cold, because I'm thinking of my colleagues. I'm not being selfish, I'm protecting myself. I'm perfectly capable of doing my job, hence I come in, even at the expense of my colleagues. It's up to my employer to change it's policy if they don't want this to happen.

Secondly, when you go for another job, and they see you had a lot of sick days off... how does that reflect on you? Sorry to say, but even though you were taking the moral high ground, it won't land you the job.
