Link to my 'ask 8pack' thread re: the cards.
I've learnt a lesson here, would not buy the cards again, don't get me wrong, great coolers, construction and performance.
But next time, when all the reviews say a cheaper card is within 10% of the flagship, it really does
mean that, as my benchies/performance is the same as 670 SLI would be and i'd have £120 more in pocket!
I only got them because I rarely get the flagship card of a range, GTX 280 is only other time I have done it. It was nice in this instance to get a very highly regarded card at a knock-down price so threw caution to the wind.
I hoped the cards would clock like champs but mine are very mediocre.
The memory is stable at 7.6ghz though which is remarkable, it REALLY opened the cards up so another way of looking at it is I have x2 770's but saved £40 on each card (cheapest 770 at the time was £300)
Funds permitting I'd love to put them underwater and be able to shove more volts into them without as much worry as on air...
Nice boost to e-peen never goes amiss though
However in SLI they munch anything at stock clocks, heck these are GPU cores over 1GHZ stock, 470's needed the balls clocked off them yes to open them up, but all we are talking now on these things is gaining 4-8fps.
Still, I expect to be good GPU wise for 1.5-2yrs
I should have plumped for the Asus DCUII 4GB when they were £200 on ocuk, even though I agree 2GB IS enough for 1080p for the forseable future, until the GPU cores themselves are no longer powerful enough and we all have to upgrade anyway, at least I wouldn't have to worry about stupid V-RAM limit.
Tombraider looks better than crysis 3 IMO, from an art direction standpoint at least and I only see 1100mb V-ram useage in 3D vision with everything pretty much maxed out.
The new consoles aren't going to shock us PC gamers in the slightest graphically, it will only shock our expectations in terms of graphics on our TV in our lounge being a step up.
