Which Video card for BF4? Amd or Nvidia

BF4 is an AMD (ATI in old school) optimized game, plus with the R9 280X being the same level performance as the GTX 770 and has an extra GB of vRam and is much cheaper.... its a no brainer :)

It'll be interesting to see if the new series suffers from Microstutter or not in Xfire mode, it's the only reason I sold my second 7970.

I really hope so :)

AFR mode with frame pacing on, no stutters at all with vsync on or off for me. Vsync stutter if I leave xfire mode as default tho

This.

I still find microstutter is very game dependent for me though. Currently playing through the Dead Space series of games which are Directx9, so no frame pacing. Not seeing any microstutter at all even without frame pacing doing its thing.

Give the Heaven 4 bench a go with and without frame pacing. The difference is awesome.

AMD offer better price performance so weigh up that and Mantle against the benefits of G sync, 3D Vision, PhysX etc.

If you're looking the cheapest best raw power possible then you're looking at the AMD options.

Lol, Kaap. I'm really starting to worry about you and your unhealthy obsession with synthetic benchmarks. :D

I noticed a difference in Valley last time i bothered to check so i expect its the same in Heaven. What i will say is those synthetics are DX11 though and not DX9. I find the majority of stutter presents itself in DX11 for me over DX9. Of course thats a thing of the past now but maybe goes some way to explain why AMD focused on DX11/10 first.

The reason it is relevant is two HD 7970s go round that benchmark better than a GTX 690 can.

Try it yourself, in Heaven 4 there are a couple of spots where you get massive spikes. With the frame pacing drivers you hardly notice them, it may not be a game but it does show the drivers in a very good light.

I remember there being a little hitch in Valley. Can't remember what scene it is, think its the one where you're zoomed out in the sky. Then you dip down towards loads of trees. As you descend there is a little hitch. I see it with a single card too so i think it could be a little bug in the benchmark, who knows. Makes me wonder if HT has anything to do with it actually.

Still sitting on the fence for me, waiting for those reviews to hit before I decide on a move up from my 570. Whether that's maybe 7950 CF , or 280X, GTX 780 (assuming price drop). The 290X I imagine will be out of my price range, the same as the 780ti.

I have always preferred Nvidia from driver issues in the past but some of the prices on AMD cards recently vs performance can't be ignored.

Hopeful of something more substantial in the next week or so :)
