Can you see a better version of GTAO coming soon?

Having been playing GTAO for a few weeks now and whilst having lots of fun with friends, waiting for R* to fix the bugs, glitches and start the roll out for the promised Heists etc, I can't help but feel some developer will make a stand alone MMO Heist game, similar to GTA.

Reading the GTA forums I can only see everyones hate for R* right now due to all these bugs and the fact people are getting bored due to no extra content as promised yet. yes I know R* are probably wanting to fix the online game before releasing the DLC but people are getting restless.

I think with the power of the new consoles coming out soon the new 'GTAO' (lets call it that for now) made by somebody else could be in for a winner. Not only because people are wanting this sort of game, having played GTA single player people like the heists part of it although they are scripted, but because a new developer can learn right away the mistakes R* have made and make sure they will not happen again.

I guess the new consoles can provide enough power to render a true to life city, same size, busy roads and side walks, great detail and lots of enterable buildings to explore.

The new GTAO would certainly be much better than the real GTAO. I think it would be entirely based on robberies and heists. That sort of thing. None of this racing and silly missions etc, yes there will be leveling involved and getting to a certain rank/level and own certain buildings before you can take on big jobs but I think there will be a lot more mature element to the new GTAO. I play World of Warcraft and can see a new GTAO being like that but not as linear, you will still have to level and form a 'crew/gang' but the game will be more complex and take more time to get to the bigger and better things.

If the 'main' jobs would include, like GTAO (soon) a Casino and Race track, possibly a Bank or too, the new GTAO would have a fully modeled interior of all job buildings and is totally up to the team/crew or gang to work out how to actually pull of a job of this scale. I think the real GTAO will be linear as the single player versions but thats not set in stone yet and no one knows.

In a nut shell - some one some where will surpass GTAO with their own versions and it will be more complex, free to carry out a job how you want with who you want and generally better overall.

What are your thoughts? I know games developers game see the popularity of GTA and GTAO, why not copy and make it better?

I think that rockstar should stop developing games but still design a game engine and big lovely cities.

If they did this and let it out for other companies to make a game based on this engine and the lovely open spaces so a developer that can actually use this sand box to its full potential it would probably be the best game in the world.

Thats a fair point. R* do know how to make a city, living and breathing as GTA 5 certainly points out. Having them just make cities and giving to other developers could be good.

I don't see any other developer doing a better job really.

I'm tempted to sell my PS3 and GTA V, online isn't anywhere near as good as I thought it would be. This game should have been a next gen launch title instead of an end of current gen money milker.

GTAO is massively disappointing IMO.

I love GTAV but i was initially the most hyped about the online, and it turned out to be a fail.

I was hoping it would keep me busy until PS4 :(

The biggest probelm with online is now that if you go in a public game the people who were prepared to hammer it while it was super unstable are now high level and will gank the living hell out of you if you set foot in a public game.

If like me you are one of the people who lost a character and are back with a pistol then your in trouble.

So then millions of people wouldn't have been able to play it?

Sure for Rockstar it paid off, I really don't care about numbers though, the game would have been far better on next gen and without doubt tempted many more into buying a PS4 or XB1 on release, especially PS as they are really lacking launch titles.

...yes why would a company want a game to sell well when they could....not sell well. Lucky you don't run a business :p

I said above it paid off for Rockstar but I don't care how much they make, they would make millions either way.

How would you know whether I run a business or not ;)

If you did and going by that logic you wouldn't run it for long :p

There is zero positives for a company like Rockstar releasing a launch title unless one or both of the console producers give them a huge payoff.

I tried GTAO once and it froze and never tried it since and with reading other people's comments, many saying its still messy, I have little faith in it now. I have little patience for games that don't work properly so I'll be trading it in as I've finished the SP.

R* make cracking SP games but I really think they should let another company develop the online side of it because clearly they haven't been able to get it right, yet.

Do I see a better version of GTAO coming soon? Yes - patches, fixed and updates to the existing GTAO. Maybe even some DLC in there too.

Do I see a better version of GTAO coming ever? Yes - Maybe as next gen release of online only or attached to GTA6.

Do I see another developer releasing anything close to GTAO? Maybe but not anytime soon.

R* obviously spent a lot of time getting the SP working but GTAO would have also taken a good proportion of the dev time of GTA5. As we have no information of anyone doing anything even vaguely similar then any release, either by R* or another dev, will be a long way in the future.

With the release of next gen looming it opens up a lot more possibilities however we have no news of anyone doing something similar so I don't think, even if it is in the works, it will be released anytime soon. Maybe in a year or so there might a be a contender. However the other problem I see is that while GTAO has had its problems any dev that tries to release something similar will face comparison to GTAO. Not the GTAO we know today but the GTAO that exists whenever the new dev releases their game. What GTAO is like then who knows but, even with the problems, I still have faith that R* will deliver so it will be a mammoth challenge for a dev to equal or better GTAO.

Also going forward, there is the persistant background rumour that there will be something GTA related early on for next gen. If it turns out to be true I can see the only game to topple GTA5 will be GTA6.

Tbh any business I ran would be completely different to explaining why I think a next gen launch would have benefited us the gamers not some already minted company.

They would get a huge pay off anyway, fair enough they might not have reached the 1 billion mark so quickly but over the years it would have averaged out. Instead we'll be waiting a year or so for a next gen version of V which will be pretty boring if you've played the current gen version through or we'll be waiting 5 years for a new one which will be nearing the end of the new consoles lifespan and PC's will be way way ahead technically again.

I think people undervalue the job R* have done with GTAO and though its very unpolished, its still with the right developer IMHO, at least theyll fix it to a state which they wanted it to be in the first place, which I doubt most would do...

GTAO feels like an experience that will be well suited to next gen so really hope they re-release that component, I dont need to play GTA5 SP again, it was mighty on the existing consoles...

ps3ud0

GTA V cost like $170 million to make did it not?

I'm guessing most of that was on the engine and the city rather than the single player mission side of it.

Can I see another company making a better version? No chance.

Red Dead Redemption which funnily enough is another Rockstar game though has the potential on next gen to beat it if they put half as much money and effort into it because most of the groundwork has already been laid out for it by GTA V which they can re-use.

It's pretty good even in the current incarnation, not really sure why people are complaining so much. Heists aren't in but will be added, there's still a lot of content and value for money even without them.

It will get better, they already said that they want to add on to it.

For a first try I think its good, of course it could be 100x better. But it's still fun and I've had a lot of laughs and hopefully many more to come.
