Thinking about it I imagine it could have an effect on the warranty should the box fail?

Very nice but imo the wood interior ruins the look of it![]()

This.
Plus, I don't see what's to hate about it. Yes it feels a bit different but it's there for a reason!
it makes gear changes slow and jerky.
Had the auto gearbox on mine flashed with Alpina software, much more enjoyable to drive.

A CDV does not make a gear change slow and jerky....a slow and jerky gear change is entirely the fault of the driver.
The only 'downside' to a CDV is preventing people who want to smash the hell out of their drive train with every single gear change being able to do so without the clutch slip like feeling the CDV induces.
Change gears properly and it's a non-issue. If you want to forgo mechanical sympathy and drive on the road as if it were a race track? Remove it.
I guess i was just very lucky. The guy was getting a brand new C63 AMG delivered, and didn't have the space to keep 2 cars - and because i had the cash, he couldn't really say no!
I must admit, after driving the car with a DCT box and having the CIC nav - i literally COULDN'T go back to the older style Nav or gearbox - they seem so bad in comparison. Surely you agree with the CCC nav fox - one of the worst i have used!!![]()
You clearly haven't used many sat nav systems then. There aren't that many differences between CIC and CCC apart from a higher res screen, HDD and true split screen.

The user interface is totally different. The controller is different, the map graphics and user interface is totally different. The split screen is a useful function rather than a totally bizarre limitation as per CCC (Want to have a map on the big screen and media information on the small one? You can't. Want to have a map on the entire screen? You can't. CIC fixes this).
It's completely different and much superior.

You are probably right, have only used Nav systems in an Audi A5, 335i and the RNS-510 in a Passat CC. I am very fond of the RNS-510, but would have to say that the CIC nav is the smoothest system i have used.
I would say there are a lot of differences, having gone from the CCC to CIC i just couldn't go back. The older version was so sluggish, and the menu system seemed so dated for its time! Whilst it is essentially true that the CIC was just an updated CCC, the graphical and user interface differences are so large that they feel and may as well be completely different systems!
