Just put a deposit on this....

Thats absolutely exceptional, how on earth did you manage that?

I guess i was just very lucky. The guy was getting a brand new C63 AMG delivered, and didn't have the space to keep 2 cars - and because i had the cash, he couldn't really say no!

I must admit, after driving the car with a DCT box and having the CIC nav - i literally COULDN'T go back to the older style Nav or gearbox - they seem so bad in comparison. Surely you agree with the CCC nav fox - one of the worst i have used!! :o

This.

Plus, I don't see what's to hate about it. Yes it feels a bit different but it's there for a reason!

If found, and you have clutch/gearbox issues, they will not honour the warranty. Happened to a chap around here and he had to foot the bill on his 320d.

As for feeling different - it keeps it safe against new drivers damaging the box, but for more experienced drivers, it makes gear changes slow and jerky.

it makes gear changes slow and jerky.

A CDV does not make a gear change slow and jerky....a slow and jerky gear change is entirely the fault of the driver.

The only 'downside' to a CDV is preventing people who want to smash the hell out of their drive train with every single gear change being able to do so without the clutch slip like feeling the CDV induces.

Change gears properly and it's a non-issue. If you want to forgo mechanical sympathy and drive on the road as if it were a race track? Remove it.

Had the auto gearbox on mine flashed with Alpina software, much more enjoyable to drive.

Friend of mine does it along with a host of other coding. Will put you in contact if you wish, he is based in Essex.

Hi Sparky. Please could you let me have his details? I'd like to ask about some tweaks for my 5 Series.

Love that car scratch! I'd love one, but agree with TWFox that they are overpriced at the moment. I went from a 3 Series Touring to a 5 Series Touring, and must confess to missing the agility, although I do love my 5!

Hate these runflats though! Jiggly!

Bmw drive train its strong as hell not really a problem smashing on it. Cdv delete is a great mood imo there is no downside.

You clearly haven't used many sat nav systems then. There aren't that many differences between CIC and CCC apart from a higher res screen, HDD and true split screen.

There are loads of differences IMHO, it's like using a completely different system because, well, it is a completely different system.

The user interface is totally different. The controller is different, the map graphics and user interface is totally different. The split screen is a useful function rather than a totally bizarre limitation as per CCC (Want to have a map on the big screen and media information on the small one? You can't. Want to have a map on the entire screen? You can't. CIC fixes this).

It's completely different and much superior.

Said like a true S2000 CDV man. CDV = feeling of clutch slip.

How is the user interface totally different?
You still have the central controller to access the menus apart from the controller having some buttons round the outside, but the central button/knob does the same thing.
The menus are still the same apart from having some different graphics i.e. they still perform the same function albeit with a different look. You still have to go from step A to B in the same fashion.
Split screen I agree with, which is why I cited it as a main difference.

How can it be a completely different system, because it used a HDD instead of a DVD? It's still iDrive, just updated, not totally changed.

You are probably right, have only used Nav systems in an Audi A5, 335i and the RNS-510 in a Passat CC. I am very fond of the RNS-510, but would have to say that the CIC nav is the smoothest system i have used.

I would say there are a lot of differences, having gone from the CCC to CIC i just couldn't go back. The older version was so sluggish, and the menu system seemed so dated for its time! Whilst it is essentially true that the CIC was just an updated CCC, the graphical and user interface differences are so large that they feel and may as well be completely different systems!

EDIT: Panthro, do you use the CCC then?

iDrive is definitely one of if not the best integrated systems available IMO. CIC is a massive improvement over CCC, but my previous point was that they aren't all that different; CIC just ironed out a lot of the problems with CCC and improved on it.

My E92 M3 had CCC and my E89 Z4 has CIC. I wouldn't go back to CCC either.
