Given that the variants show the possible customisation options available (i.e. with the same hull, any manner of bolt-ons can be fitted), I don't see how the rock/paper/scissor mechanic will actually work.

Not sure it will, some of this game may actually *shock* be down to player skill or even player(s) if it's a multi-crew game.

I have a feeling some players will lose ships against models they really should win easily against, but hell that happens all the time when I play games lol :D

PS usually me losing.

Not really a shock, as I thought this is what the RPS mechanic is meant to achieve - No one ship is supposed to be able to trump another, ie the Hornet being gun-heavy, the 300 is speed-centric, and the Aurora being the most manoeuvrable (for example, without checking the stats). So no ship ever 'should' beat another and thus it relies on player skill, not choosing the biggest baddest thing and simply dukeing it out like Freelancer usually did.

The idea seems to be that you mess around, figure out what kind of flying *you* are best at and then choose the most appropriate ship for what you want to do.

So yes, there will be some that lose (count me in for that, too!) but that's down to their lack of skill, poor choice of ship and/or how they apply its abilities.
You don't fly an interceptor as if it were a tank against a gunship squad, for example - You hit & run like a mad thing!

The cutlass is one to watch, more firepower thana Hornet and more maneuverable but weak as hell in armor. Very much a Glass cannon according to the devs

I just hope they don't overly re-balance ships post release due to whinging. It usually happens, so let's hope it does so in the alpha/beta testing.

Balancing is going to be very interesting, especially if they make NPC crew members extremely good.. arguably better than human players :D

Folks I took out the Veteran Backer Hornet, whats different about all the new variants of Hornets available? And how do I go about getting them as an LTI/Veteran backer?

Look in the mirror and say "HybridX" three times, he'll possibly show up in this thread and help you :) Terribly nice chap!

P.S. Don't touch yourself whilst doing saying it, the outcome is entirely different.

As your already a veteran backer you don't need to do anything except one of the following.

Melt your pack down and buy the pack you want OR buy the upgrade pack to add in to your existing pack

It's not playable yet lol. Only have a module to walk around your ships at the moment.

December will be interesting as that's when there will be dog fighting matches

Still trying to figure my head around their Character Slot mechanic...
They talk about buying ($15) extra slots from the pledge shop, but what about when the final game is released?
Do new players starting out only ever get one slot? Do you have to buy more, for real money?
