Brand v Paxman

He reminded me of the ultra left wing groups at my uni: full of big ideas but with no clue about how they would actually work. He's intelligent, no doubt about that, but that doesn't mean he's got a clue about how government actually works.

Thing is tho imo those in power are equally as useless and get well rewarded for not really being great at anything.

He raises a number of valid points, but really I don't expect a comedian to know how to reorganise our entire social system.

Paxman asking him to explain how it would work ending up making himself look a little foolish to be honest, you don't need to have a full plan for an alternative to criticise the current system/want to change it.

It makes a change to hear somebody with what sounds like a genuine concern for the people at the bottom of the social ladder.

Brand was right about one thing. The onus should be on those in power to provide proof that they're "doing it right" rather than those that oppose them to provide proof that they aren't. Especially when it comes down to the important issues such as environment and wealth distribution.

Anyone with even a cursory interest in science should agree. Unfortunately, we as a population are mostly brainwashed into apathy or willing complicity with medieval social science.

What background or job titled must you have previously held to know how to reorganise a "social system" (wasn't really what he was describing) then? Genuinely curious as to the thought process behind a successful business man who has his roots in comedy not being up for the job!

Quite a lot of love for Russell's case in here, odd for a usually right wing forum, maybe we should organise a march on the government and wrest power then figure out the detail later, I`m in. (as thread starter though I would need to be the kinda Che type figurehead and get to carouse with impressionable young women).

Is democracy a lie? If the public think they have a choice in which party to vote for then they will be complicit in the lie, each political party is a mask which big buiness wears and changes with impunity.
Viva le revolution!!!

I think it's more than just sounding intelligence though. There's a key difference between him and the usual suspects in politics.

He's speaking honestly about something he cares about and he's not being self-serving. It makes a big difference!

Democracy in this country is a lie, it's one big boys club. The best thing to do with your voting card is chuck it in the recycling bin.

I thought his point was that although he no idea how to do it himself, it is plainly obvious that those that purport to have an idea, are also ******* clueless.

Criticising him for "not being up to the job" himself is entirely (and probably wilfully) missing the point.
