Thank you for the kind words - just stopped down with no filters at all. Thinking I'll play about with the exposure settings next time and try to capture more of the surrounding area as well as the trails.

You should try and do them just after sunset when there's a bit more ambient light. You'll get more detail in the sky

Criticise please

I need to learn to keep the camera steady and also know what aperture to use to get just the sign and gate in focus but the rest out, I'm guessing about 5?

I'd probably buy a 50mm 1.8 as well if you really want blurred backgrounds. Assuming you're using the 18-55 atm?

The widest open you can, as much focal length as you can get away with, as close to the subject as you can get away with.
