*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

So turns out PS4 does need a day 1 patch to get most of it's features up and running:

Surprised a lot of this isn't available out of the box to be honest.

So when a rain of poo was splattering down over MS about how you would need it connected to the Internet ( for various good reasons).

YOu now will not be able to playback movies on either medium WITHOUT an internet connection/ update on day one. Remember all those Military people that caused stink about this kind of thing.

Pretty sure military and other people caused a stink because X1 required an internet connection once every 24 hours or so or it would just for the most part stop working with a lot of features?

I assume they'd integrate the update with launch titles at the time too, providing they've been able to get it out before the games go to print.

Obviously won't help with anything that needs online activation.

Some more Killzone, this time some story info :

So that looks like multiplayer and the campaign is looking really good, now roll on a month..

Whats the opinion with availability of games on release day? Do you think we could walk into a high street store or supermarket and buy release day games on release day and the weekend?

I cant decide if I should pre-order the games just in case there is no stock in stores. I'll get my console on release day but no games to play on it :(

Opinions?

I doubt there will be much issue picking up games although I imagine the prices might be inflated a bit for the first few weeks.

Wish you would check your email.

If people are into football games then wait after xmas when the latest drops to £2 as its slightly outdated.

So I went to Comic Con in London today and guess what? Ubisoft were there with some PS4's and Assassins Creed 4!!

Impressions from my 15/20 min playthrough:

Controller is much better, feels like the person who designed it actually had human hands this time around :p

Triggers and Shoulder buttons are both excellent

Sticks are improved, wasn't slipping off them as much but still not a fan of the positioning.

So all in all a vast improvement but the 360 pad is still better imo. Unfortunately they didn't have any One's there to compare.

Assassin's Creed 4 though...not impressed at all tbh. It looks and plays like a last gen game. I wasn't impressed by the lack of quality in Assassin's Creed 3 and it doesn't feel like they've fixed any of it. I may get it when it's cheap but I really wasn't sold on getting it at launch.

I thought it looked quite good on this video wrt improvements for next-gen.

The mission was a base assault, the sea looked pretty impressive (although the ships gameplay I found very boring.) Once you got onto dry ground though the fort itself looked very unimpressive and the combat just wasn't that fun.

I think the series is really stagnating tbh and they need to do something pretty huge and I say this as someone who has played and enjoyed all of them up to 3.

I think they peaked with Assassins Creed 2. Number 1 was far too repetitive and number 3 was just a broken mess that Ubisoft still haven't completely patched and probably never will. They seem to be happy doing the bare minimum to get sales these days so the fact you're saying it's not much of an improvement isn't a surprise :(

I've kind of missed the Assassins Creed series completely. I bought AC2 on steam sale a couple of months ago and played it for the first time today. I'm about an hour in but it seems really dull and linear? Reminds me of the Batman series only nowhere near as polished. Do things improve any as I'm just not getting what all the fuss is about? The series obviously has plenty of fans as it's made it to its fourth iteration and is a headline title for the next-gen consoles but I'm struggling to get into it.

Speaking of Batman I'm really disappointed that Arkham origins isn't making an appearance on the PS4/Xbone.

How many people would buy a day 1 console and not have an internet connection?

I thought brotherhood was the best one. Revelations was more of the same but just not as good. And 3, well still haven't finished that. I'll force myself to at some point :o
