try and continue Dark Souls, or start Dragons Dogma dark arisen

I have to disagree... Summoning solaire or Lutrec, or even both at the same time always makes it harder for me, as I find they disrupt the dragon's attack patterns..... I have died on Gaping dragon quite a few times with a summoned NPC or two, but never solo!
Yeah, they can disrupt him, but I usually have some kind of lightning ranged attack which does large damage to the Dragon, so it tends to be dead fairly quickly.

Yea its difficult as both have a benefit really

I often wonder if im using the right equipment too, just using a long sword and hollow solidier shield both upgraded a bit, seems to do ok but wondering if theres a better option at this point

I have the drake sword but felt a bit op and kind of felt like cheating :O

The Drake Sword is very OP to start, but as it doesn't level up with your stats, it soon becomes a bit useless.

The Long Sword is a decent weapon, but you always want to make sure you're using the best weapon for the stats you're using. Also, it's always a good idea to have a plan of where you want to end up stat wise. It'll make it easier for you to decide what kind of weapons will be right for you, so you don't want time and souls upgrading a weapon that will end up being underpowered compared to something else.

Think I'm gonna roll a pyro.

My favourite class. A fully levelled Pyro Glove and the top level Pyromancies can make short work of virtually any boss.

I've just been looking at the DS wiki (busy day at work :D) about classes etc and the pyro looks like a good mix of mage and melee when required. I miss my undead mage on WoW and love high DPS ranged play so I think I'm going to give it a go.

Also when I started I was advised by my son to take the master key (he's done over 200 hours in DS so kind of knows it inside out) but now I'm reading opinions of people who say don't take it on first play through so you open up the levels as From intended. I must admit, those early times with him telling me to 'go there, open this, do that, kill this' got me very confused as to where the bloody hell I should be going!

If I don't take the key what is the next best option? Can all of the gifts be obtained later on anyway?

With this character im going for a melee sword and shield sort of class with a mid ground between attack and defense so trying to spec for that really i think

I got.back to Andre and got the crest for 20,000! Done a bit of farming there to level up a decent amount but don't want to over do it so will not carry on to try and get the elite armour up ahead

Do i need to worry about getting spells? Ive not used one yet, im back at forelink with the chap that sells miracles and windering if i should have one or can i not use them?

Ah ok thanks ill look into it, wojld it be worth doing for a healing spell or just stick to flasks?
There are some really powerful spells and miracles, but you need to put a good amount of points into either Intelligence or Faith to use some of them. If you're enjoying melee I would say to stick with that for now, but maybe up your Dex a bit to make sure you can use a bow, as having a ranged attack is very useful.

Just make sure you're aware of how the weapons scale with our stats, so that you're using the right weapon for your stats. For example, the Long Sword scales with both Strength and Dexterity evenly, so you'd want those stats to be fairly even, while something like the Balder Side Sword scales a lot more with Dex, so you'd want that stat to be higher. Certainly something to be aware of :)

The thing about DS is even though it has different classes and covenants..it encourages you to adapt and try everything. Id advise trying whatever covenant u like. Get spells, get pyromancies (very important pyromancy teacher in blightown)

Id do it all in the first playthrough..experiment etc.

Ohh gj on unlocking the seal some good exp in that area behind that door ;)

My motto is buy everything then choose what you like best. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it right? ;)

So yeah dont feel guilty about getting lots of exp/souls BUT dont use it for levelling. Buy everything else. But then if you dont care at all about mp then you could just level as well but you have to consider something like the following scenario. Say you have been using souls for levelling so you are at a level which is unfortunately higher than normal for fighting a particular boss. This means that you will have less people to help you fight the boss because they have already moved onto the next boss at that same level. (havent really tested this theory though haha)

I would buy and upgrade at least 3 different weapon types (e.g. spear thrust type, 2hand sword/hammer and 1 handed weapon/sword)

Do the same for 3 or 4 different shields. e.g. dragoncrest shield, crest shield and bloodshield and eagle shield. If you want the possibility of parrying then dont bother with eagle shield (its the first level of that type of heavy shield that offers more protection and resistance against blows that would stagger you if u use a normal shield)

Armour. Poison/curse/magic resist type set, bad-ass set, high mobility set and high dam resistance set.

Lots of tips, thanks! I got the basic pyromancy fire attack and continued to blight town, just got to the bonfire at the bottom with all the poison on the ground, really feel more capable now, but yea i agree i dont want to over level so ill try and use souls to upgrade different weapons etc :D

Also dark souls 2 beta in the morning on ps plus, may just try it to see how it looks

I tried playing Dragons Dogma: DA and thought it was a bit crap, really. Dark Souls, on the other hand, is nothing short of awesome.

Agree :)

Just thought i would try the claymore, seems like a good weapon so upgraded to +5 for now! Is it still effective to use a shield with this one, seeing as its a lot bigger and slower

*been farming slugs for large titanite shards and got claymore to +10seems good!
