mega storms uk next week

It's pretty windy at the beach in Christchurch. I'd say about 40mph based on a random guess. The BBC says the storm will still be rocking when I get up for work at 6am Monday, I bet the trains wont be running...

My preparations extend to charging up my vita, phone, tablet, laptop which might provide 8h of non bordom in the event of a power cut.

Her cool, someone on the forums lives near me. Should we share a weather bunker? I have a usb battery :p

I've never seen a map that shows specific countries so far out of scale, and so far from their correct location in relation to everyone else on a world map:p

Strange things is - a lot of people would look at that and think that is the actual size of the UK in relation to the US/France/Spain etc.

Looks ok to me vs images from space.

Absolutely lashed it down at 6am here in Hitchin. Didn't help that the wind was really strong and was blowing the rain into our massive windows.

This morning's forecast has the storm a bit weaker than last nights. Peak gusts now mid 70s mpg along the south coast between Bognor and Brighton.

Not as bad as it was sounding yesterday:

09:01am – Forecaster: Kris Surtees

Latest wind gust estimates based upon 0z model data:

Up To 60mph – South Wales, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire

Up To 70mph – Inland parts of South-West England, Central Southern England, South-East England, East Anglia, Channel Islands

Up To 80mph – Coastlines of South-West England, Central Southern England, South-East England and East Anglia

So a slight downgrade in the severity of the storm from the overnight period. This does not mean that we are out of the woods – the difference now is that the risk of gusts above 80mph has become much lower.

However, generally winds of 60-70mph are still expected inland across Southern England and Wales, with the potential for gusts of 75-80mph along Southern and South-Eastern coasts.

So whilst there has been a slight downgrade in the severity (some model runs yesterday were showing gusts of 80-90mph), the situation remains the same with the potential for disruption across Southern Britain during tomorrow.

9 mph winds here on the south Kent coast, intermittent rain showers.

Was a bit windier and a lot wetter earlier this morning when I took the dog out. The sea was also no where near as rough as I thought it would have been.

Reporting medium rain on the mid wales border, I've been practising holding my breath in case it gets any worse. I would advise you guys do the same.

Very quiet and calm here in Surrey. The calm before the storm?

Was a little bit windy last night, but bright and sunny at the moment. Don't need to worry as the school run mums are ready in their X5s/Range Rovers . . .

So where is this mega storm? :o

Tonight and tomorrow like it's always been predicted as. People on this forum seem easily confused, why would a storm tonight and tomorrow mean we should have bad weather yesterday or this morning?

I suppose tomorrow evening will be full of people who don't live anywhere near where the storm is meant to hit posting about how it has amounted to nothing too.
