mouse mats do they even matter? if so what type should i get?

I use a boogie xxl pad, covers most of my desk so is nice to have for mouse and keyboard. Performance i duno, ok i guess and thats with a deathadder 2013. Cant say its that much diff from when i was using a diamond back 3g mouse like but it doesnt get that grimy compared to the db3g.

I use a Steelseries 4HD, have no problems with it and have used a ROCCAT Kone+ and a Corsair M90 on it.

Like the guy says in the only review, I also previously used a ROCCAT Sota and it warped within 2 weeks of use, was also a bit scratchy.

Cloth vs Hard. I have no preference, I switched to a hard surface just to try it as my cloth mats get proper filthy, and with a hard surface you can scrape the dirt off.

As for comfort I wear sweatbands to comfort my wrist.

Something I am curious about, has anyone machine washed a cloth pad? really curious, I want to try it but don't want to wreck my washing machine. And I don't mind what the neighbours might think when I hang a mouse mat on the washing line :D

Just tried a 3rd mouse (Perixx MX2000) with the Boogie Bug pad. Not good. There's no smoothness or accuracy. It's much better on the wooden desk.

Very impressed with the Perixx MX2000. Cracking mouse for the price.

I used the Sphex for a while and just found it mediocre really, the grain on it was neither here nor there and my wrist was painful after a while :(

I had a Sphex as well and found that the sticky stuff on the bottom that's designed to stop it moving ended up pulling the surface off my cheap desk, kinda defeats one of the reasons to use a mat being to protect the desk surface :(

Anyone else had this problem or just me ?
