That was what i was thinking when reading the whole thing. Didn't your sister or brother-in-law give a reason as to why they're being so strange about it?
Because they think it is weird. The whole sisters fellas sister think. It is a bit Jeremy Kyle but nothing actually wrong with it.
Yep, read that one before, i'm boycotting as much as i can anything that to do with Dubai. I would never fly Emirates or Qatar Airways again. I don't drive so i don't use the petrol they make (or barely use the bus)
There's too many stories, Yas786 thinks it's a glorious 1st world country when it's just a crass 3rd world cesspit with a bit of money.
On topic - Good luck Steameh and be careful out there, i'd think about asking her to move back to England if it hits off.
I'm not reading that rubbish. I'm going on holiday for 10 days, she knows what you can and can't do out there and I have a pretty good idea.
She comes back at Xmas for 10 days and we will go from there. If I land a new job here then I'll stay here and we will look at her coming back.

It's not rubbish, it's pretty typical of how quickly things can go south for doing pretty normal things for a westerner.

Brother in law clearly doesn't want you to have his sister as he wants her all to himself..
As for your sister, talk to her say how you like this woman and that you won't impare on her life with her husband etc. Make it look like its the Brother in law whos a dippo, not you.

Just because you're going on holiday and not living there it doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention to what goes on. It might make you think about how you treat migrant workers out there who are doing their utmost to appease you whilst you're holidaying.
I'm already aware of how they're treated and I naturally treat everyone with the same respect, it's how I was bought up.
Her sister and her fella went out for a week when she went back and had no problems. I'm pretty sure I'm capable of the same without reading a depressing article.

What i did say that it makes the UK look 3rd world with the amount of money that is floating around. Which is true and seems like a lot of you have taken my comments too personally.Anyhow as long as you stick to their rules then you wont have any problems, like most countries in the world Dubai has their own issues and a lot of it i dont condone ie mis-treatment of workers there and other stuff that happens.
Anyhow OP hope it all works out for you in the end

The articles author is Johann Hari, who is not exactly known as a beacon of credibility. How can even get work after his fraud, plus the discovery of his 'fantasy' stories which if acted upon would be illegal, is beyond me.

Fair enough, however I don't need to believe him as I and many others have witnessed a lot of what is written in that article first hand. Not only Dubai but Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
I went to Dubai just over a year ago for a stag du and a wedding, I have never seen so many wasted westerners out and about, I went out there with rational fears (as you would imagine) but quite simply providing you don't take the mick too much you'll be absolutely fine.

UK is a 1st world country with a kick ass capital city, with areas like the Square Mile and Canary Wharf, i take it you've been there? So when you claim Dubai make it look like a 3rd world country how else are we supposed to take it???
