Are you for or against foriegn aid

Would make it a condition of giving aid to India that they drop their space program and use the vast resources that consumes to help their own people

If you want to help Africa, buy African products. Yes they are essentially cash crops, but they are still required to develop.

In the past 60 years we've pumped in $1 Trillion in aid, that's enough to buy wells, seeds and spades for everyone and their dog and their dog's second cousin. Clearly we are ****ing money up the wall in Africa.

Africans are their own worst enemy, if this were any other continent they would have a developed economy now, not still be running around killing each other for monkey meat.
Sad to say but if any western nation recolonised any part of Africa now, they would have an efficient country up and running in 10 years.

Please assume the party submission position. The PC Police are on their way...

It's probably true, but you just can't *say* it out loud :p

we pay in our taxes 0.7% towards foreign aid.
A person on an income of £25,000 pays £5,465 in tax, of which £52 a year would go to the overseas aid budget. That is the cost of buying a loaf of bread a week, do you begrudge the starving of the world that or not.

Too broad a question I think.

I don't support everywhere that foreign aid is deployed but in general I am very much for it.

The general idea of the aid is of course to keep the nations where it is sent stable so that there isn't mass migration from those nations and therefore immigration in Ireland or the uk. I'm not against immigration per se just Gainst people whining about it and anything that can be done to stop that is usually a good thing.

No, its not the 1970s anymore. Either go in and build some infrastructure with our own contractors and local label and resources or let them kill each other.

Giving it to these tin pot nations has caused nothing but trouble.

Zimbabwe went the other way and look at the state it is in.
Not true, minority white rule was very successful, until UN sanctions and communist funded black terrorist organisations killed Rhodesia.

Mugabe and a black population quite happy to indulge in corruption were the ones who ruined the country. Can you imagine any western population willing to be bribed just to keep one party in power?

Repeat the exact same series of events for South Africa and really the only conclusion is that black Africans are incapable of efficient government, heck Somalia hasn't even got a government, it's just a collaboration of warlords. SA is practically the most dangerous place on the planet, good job Mandela.

Whilst its bit a wad of cash in the hand like in Africa all western politics are bribery. Look at the Labour Party they may as well be stuffing notes into people's pockets to buy votes.

It isn't so obvious in the west but don't be so naive that that bribery isn't rampant.

No we have enough problems in our own country. Glad we have paid for India's space program though. Jolly nice.

(Standing by for incoming)

I'm for foreign aid when it benefits us more than what we could use that money for at home. Against otherwise. If it really is an effective geopolitical tool then it's well worth it, likewise in an ideal world dragging various 3rd world hellholes into the 21st century means they'll be buying our exports in the long term. It's a very complicated issue however without the full facts.

On the other hand if it were just a case of feeding the needy in other countries I'm all for letting them starve to build a water feature in this country.

That was my point, Zimbabwe moved away from white rule and look what happened.

I have nothing against helping those worse off than us, BUT ... I think we should sort out our own debts first.

It does irritate me when watching the news hearing how much debt we're in, and then five minutes later hearing we've just given millions to 'x' country as aid.

Get the UK back in the black and then, and only then, give financial aid where it's most needed.

Get the UK back in the black and then......

Do you mean the deficit or actual debt?

I don't think the UK will ever be out of debt. The deficit may reduce and at some point, in many years, may run at a small surplus for a small amount of time. I don't think it will ever. Be for long enough to pay off debt though.

No,

Why should it be our job to take on burdens created by themselves? A lot of times these people support the very system that is crapping on them... then expect hand-outs for it.

Although like legitimate places in Africa suffers etc but people suffer here in England too what about them?

As someone stated earlier India are one of our biggest recipients of oversea's aid and have enough of a budget to have a space program. Is this not the same as all those people who cry about people on benefits having sky tv? How come there is not the same outrage? And what about the 15bn a month sent to the EU? Has anyone got the figures on what the total figures are? Would it be around 20bn a month for EU and overseas aid?

And for people to sit and home and cry about benefits here and budget cuts is just retarded. Then there is also immigration to take into account off. I saw on the Mail that immigration actually caused a 1bn black hole in the state coffers due to the free NHS care etc. Then there is also the money we pay out for the wars in Afghanistan and the bill for the airpower used in Libya and potentially Syria. We are basically giving out a ton of money to everyone else while claiming to be skint. If the UKIP promised a living wage and to cut all of the above waste spending they should get a landslide vote.

What could Britain do with 20 billion pounds per month? Well we could in theory run a national lottery and could give anyone with a NI number and 25 years residency a million pound one off tax free sum. Now imagine the boost to the UK if we created 20,000 millionare's each month. I cannot believe no one has actually tried that to get votes yet :P
