there will never be an sd card on any nexus device.

there is none on ios devices either, etc.

they want people to use cloud services like google play, music, etc. everything is being pushed towards cloud usage.

32GB though should be more than enough for most peoples needs i got nowhere near to filling my 16GB nexus 4.

add to that you can always plug a USB pen into it using a cable and root, etc so if you need more storage it is possible.

Do you actually get 16 0r 32 gig though?
My N4 only has around 12gig useable out of 16.how much do you get with 32gig?
And cloud storage is only as good as your signal.when i am working in the sticks it is a waste of tme trying to access the net at all,toooo slow

realistically speaking nobody should get anywhere near to filling that unless they are doing some crazy stuff tbh.

for those that have 20GB+ of music, then you must really like music to have such a large collection, etc. therefore why not buy a decent piece of equipment to play it from like a cowon and a set of sennheisers etc? to me that would make far more sense than playing it off a mediocre piece of equipment such as any smartphone.

then theres people who watch movies/shows on their phones, seriously get a tablet and use plex or show box to stream them or download them then delete after use, etc.

there is no real need these days to have more than 32GB imo on a smartphone. i have about 1GB of music locally stored the rest on the cloud which i move to phone and delete the stuff on the phone, etc to keep a rotation system going.

photos get auto uploaded to dropbox, etc so no need to store them locally either.

I think you'll find some smartphone's sound a lot better than you give credit for.

I thought that too, then I tried PowerAmp on my GS3 which has a Wolfson DAC and I was pretty much blown away by the SQ. I was used to my Sony NWZ-A826 player for years, and the GS3 sounded noticeably better. RHA earphones used.

And with the flexibility of Android - it's better than any dedicated MP3 player IMO, plus the fact you don't have to carry an extra device around.

More local storage on the phone the better - there's no excuse for not having a 64GB model.

Just because you like to have a large variety of music available to you doesn't mean you should suddenly be spending more money on yet another device to carry round with you, before Google Music was launched here I always had at least 10gb of music on my SD card because I had the space, I like having a lot of different music to listen to and I don't like have to sit and take it on and off every week.
Also phones sound pretty good these days compared to dedicated MP3 players, and it means you don't have to spend yet more money on MP3 players and tablets.
For a lot of people cloud services such as G Music just aren't practical due to signal issues or limited data contracts, this goes for anything else that you'd stream or upload straight into the cloud.
Until we have good country wide mobile reception and unlimited data contracts everywhere it's not practical to go cloud based for a very large majority of people.
 
you can get unlimited data for as cheap as £12 and three do some really brilliant tethering deals too, etc which are truly unlimited.

i have never really had signal issues using o2's network either, unless i was in some obscure location, even then i usually download the content using wi-fi at home so it's ready to use straight away rather than streaming it.

32GB i think for most people is plenty, even with 10GB of music you still have 17GB for apps and photos.

and most people on audiophile forums would disagree with you on that smartphones are as good as cowon players, cowon is in a league of its own.

if you were a true audiophile you would know this.

Meh I have ~ 100GB (75GB usable) on my Note 3. Never really have to worry about storage :D

I'm pretty fussy when it come's to SQ so if I weren't impressed, I'd say so. Audiophiles can shove it :p.

Cowon might be a tad better (it's all subjective), but this run Android and is much more convenient.

increasing the number of models increases production costs.

so if they introduced a 64GB model and then had to increase the cost of EVERY model by a further £20, do you think it would be beneficial?

no, the average user is nowhere likely to fill 32GB of space imo.

on this forum though i suspect many of you easily could, which is why you wouldn't buy this phone in the first place and go with one with SD slots.

this phone is aimed at the mass markets.

I never claimed to be an audiophile but I do appreciate good sounding music which is why I've got a seperates set up for when I'm in the house, I said I liked having a large variety of music without having to mess about with changing it all the time and I don't like having to carry any more gadgets on me than I need to which is why I got rid of my little sony MP3 player (One of the best sounding MP3 players at the time, even audiophiles agreed ;)) when phones started coming with 3.5mm jacks so I could use decent headphones.

What I'm getting at is just because you can't see how someone would use up 26gb of space because you're all based in the cloud doesn't mean that millions of other people won't who just like to have media and things available to them instantly without having to hope they've got a data connection.

I actually think people who use this forum would be less likely to fill a phone as we're all clued up enough to know about getting unlimited data contracts and setting up things for streaming, unlike someone who just likes to buy a phone hook it up to their pc and put all their music on it.
