Hey guys.

Recently just recovering from a cold(thanks rl friends!) & have been looking at builds, but slowed down due to the ill... Ok, at first I was looking a a 8320 setup, but with budget, birthdays and christmas I've had to look at slight alternatives. I would be gaming at no more than 1080p&with a single gpu. What would you're thoughts be on either setups...

My first build would be...

AMD 6300
M5A97 EVO r.2
Seasonic sII520 (bronze) Or 620 version?
WD blue 1tb
Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600MHz CL9 8GB
Arc Midi v2 Or Corsair 300r
Windows 7 Or 8...

The second I was looking at... was involving FM2+, that included...

Gigabyte a88x sniper FM2+
Althlon x4 760k
Seasonic sII520
WD blue 1tb
Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600MHz CL9 8GB
Arc Midi v2 Or Corsair 300r
Windows

Now, I really need to ask you're opinions on this. I know the 760k is worse than the 6300, but how much worse if playing at 1080p max, with a single gpu?

The reason I was looking at the FM2+ motherboards(&the asus a88x pro/gigabyte up4 when they release) was because of the new features (&motherboards), with amd seeming to be concentrating on the FM2+ socket atm. The plan would have been to get the 760k(£60), then upgrade to a new kaveri/steamroller chip when they release (I would be 90% go with a single gpu without the apu...unless kaveri/apu really kicked ass) The Fm2+ would give me a path to upgrade with the new mobos. Or I could get the 6300, but I'm just unsure with no word on am3+ or Steamroller for the fx chips.

Also, as you probably noticed, I will have to use my old gpu for a few months (Ati 5750) Before I could get say a r 270/80.

Would the athlon perform well with say bf4, when compared to the 6300?

Just with the budget, and probably not upgrading much (unless a good Fm+ cpu/price) released.

Also, and this is making me not know, Windows 7 or 8? I was set on 7, but would 8 be better as once I buy the Os I don't plan on changing it for quite a while(i dislike 8 from seeing it at friends&reviews/youtube etc)

Any way, thanks for reading and any replies!

What exactly is your budget and what games will you be playing? If you want a good starting point for a gaming system, then I think you should start with a cheap Intel setup, FM2 I don't think would be the greatest but it depends what games you play.

Hey ThaReaperGuy, my budget is around £500, I did look at intel, but it wouldn't be a 4670k, more likely an i3 or non k i5 (Quad really the minimum though), so my original thoughts was an amd 6300 build then started to look into the new amd socket. The main reason i was looking at fm2+ was because of the new mobo releases, but also the Steamroller releasing early next year for the FM2+ socket. Currently on the 775 socket and really need to upgrade, my main concern with the am3+ setup was with no news on possible fx/sr releases.

The 300r is a great case, I have one, loads of room, good airflow and keeps things reasonably quiet. I also have an 8320 which is a fantastic cpu. For budget the 6300 bang for buck is brilliant. I also have the M5A97 mobo, comes with Asus AI suite which helps you to overclock the cpu, got mine to 4.0 on air and then 4.4 stable on water.

I'm sure someone here will come up with a decent £500 build for you tho.

Hey J05H86UK! Yea,cool both of those cases look great for features/price. I remember talking in a thread abut the 8320/asus m5a97 evo :p I was trying for an 8320, but money might not allow it with Christmas/Bdays so soon! So I was mainly torn between the 760k (upgrade to a sr next year), or the 6300.

Can I ask Josh, what ram are you currently using with you're M5a97 evo? (f thats the right board, sorry :p)

Yeah it's the same board, 970 chipset. I opted for 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 low profile. I wasn't sure what my clearence would be like with my old CM EVO TX3 heatsink but it was fine, also works fine witht he clearence with the H80i.

If money is tight I would personally go with the 6300. The oc potential and the fact it performs very well in current games at 1080p for the price it is what makes it a winner for me. The only reason I went with an 8320 over the 6300 was because I got a free mouse and saved myself the extra £30.

ah cool, nice. Sorry for asking about the ram, It was just i read about some mobo's being picky with the ram, so was going for the kingston, good to know the Corsair works too, thanks! Yea the 6300/8320 is appealing, it was just with the new releases of the fm2+ mobos made me wonder (Such as http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-462-GI&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=2399)

thanks again for your reply :D

What about something like this. I realise it's slightly over budget but I think it's pretty good.

I realise you said about using your current GPU. Does this mean you already have things like a case and CD drive? If so you could save a bit of money reusing them and spending it on better components?

What do you currently have on 775, might be possible to overclock the CPU?

Hey Reaperguy, at the minute i'm on a lowly e2180, with a pretty cheap motherboard, so don't think I can really oc :( Also, the reason I really have to get a new rig sorted is because this pc is slowly dying (currently using on screen keyboard:eek:) I was saving up, but with this happening have to act pretty soonish. Thanks again for you're reply!

Hey Rhyswh, thanks for putting a build together! Unfortunately my case is really bad (like a £30 from 6+ years ago) The hdd I really need to change, so can't really savage, much, If anything from it, apart from he gpu. With the 5800, I was reading about the 760(the apu without the graphics) And having that sniper board to upgrade the cpu into next year for sr, Or the 6300. It just went wrong a few months too early so having to look at build specs:eek:
Also need a new Os, which is a big chunk of possible parts I could get. That build would be close to the athlon one;) (but with a a88x mobo, and the 760k)

Just unsure, with amd being tight lipped&not seeing the poss sr releases just yet. Thanks for you're reply Rhyswh!

I'm not quite following sorry. I'm guessing you want the best your money can buy for £500?

I'm not quite following the 760/6300 business? Sorry, it's probably me! Could you explain which one you want and why and I'll try and spec you one that fits you criteria?

Sorry again for not quite understanding.

Just to clarify, I've included everything in both builds (case and all). Missed the OS in the first and swapped the SSD for the OS in the second.

Hey that's cool. Yea bit of a pain in the... having to spend on an os, but id have to get 7 or 8 pretty soon really. Yea the 1tb would be good, but even I have put it down to 500gb, when looking at costs. (was trying to get a solid-ish foundation to slot a gpu in next year) So was looking at either a top end a88x mobo for Sr, or get the more powerful 6300,*possibly* without Sr on am3+ (who knows) Again thanks for you're build an reply Rhyswh!

heh, that's cool, It's probably me!:p

Well, i was pretty much set on the 6300/m5a97 evo build, but started looking into he athlon 750/60k with the new motherboards coming out for sr/fm2+. It made me wonder if i should go for the 760k (Minus apu) or the 6300, and get a gpu in march/april time. The builds are good, I'd just probably swap the apu for the cpu. My main concern was how worse was the 750/60 to the 6300. Sorry for being confusing :p

Ok, think I'm with you. If your planning on upgrading your CPU then you might as well go for the future proof mobo. The 5600k will do for the time being. What about this?

Yea sorry! It was the choice of the new fm2+ socket/mobo, or going for the trusted 6300. That build looks pretty good, with possibly upgrading to sr next year, thanks Rhyswh! What would your opinion be on this compared to the amd 6300? It's just knowing what socket to go for, at this price range. Again, thanks for your responses!

If your getting a GPU then I would go for the 6300. I'm pretty sure the only reason you usually go with the APU is if your not planning on having a dedicated GPU. Im not sure though as I'm more of an intel man. Would you like a 6300 build specd as well?

Hey, yea i was confused when reading into FM2+ (with it being mostly apu's) I would be going with a single gpu, whether on am3+ or Fm2+. I think this gen of apus are ok, but pretty much on low settings for most games, so was curious about the performance of the cpu with the apu cut out of it (760k) The 6300 would beat it, but by how much i wasn't sure!

Thats cool , you dont have to put a 6300 build up for now,but its cool if you want too!was mainly looking into the performance difference of those 2 cpu's. Thanks for those builds, they look pretty solid Rhyswh! (if i went am3+, id 99% go for 6300/m5a97 evo r2 build that would be pretty much the same price, i think) :)
