How much should I pay mate for fuel?

£50 won't cover his fuel if he does 30mpg.
This journey would cost you £63.03.
At 30 mpg it will have cost him about £62. If he was a close mate I doubt he would want anything more than fuel cost alone.
So £80 seems quite reasonable.
then £80 seems reasonable.
£80 is more than reasonable. (assuming this is in total???)
It's not just fuel - There is the other factors to consider.
Does not =
I'm going to offer £50...

Don't ask for advice if you're going to ignore it all.

Doesn't seem excessive tbh
Reading > Stansted would've been how much on the train/bus/whatever
and then on top of that you've got the having to wait around due to train/bus timetables.

Yer paying the petrol and a little to say thanks, pay the man.

If you pay him £50 I doubt you will ever get a lift from him again. £60 is the cost of fuel and he's done a 4hr + round trip to help you out. You are planning to leave your "mate" out of pocket when he's done you a big favour

Well I picked my mate up from Manchester airport a few weeks ago and bought him back home to Stoke.

So my house to Airport = 35miles
Aiprot back to his house = 40 miles
His house back to my house = 5miles

80 miles in a 60mpg BMW 320d and he happily offered me £40 for that. So man up and offer him a reasonable amount to be honest.

Ford Focus, petrol, fairly new. I'm going to offer £50...

Are you serious? At £80 your poor friend is still doing you a big favour as 22p per mile is very cheap... That's not to mention the amount of time it took him to do the driving. Try getting a quite from a taxi and seeing just how good these 'mates rates' are.

It's over £60 according to the google-maps fuel estimator.

Taking into account it's a petrol & he may not be the most fuel efficient driver it could easily reach very close to the £80 (that's ignoring wear & tear).

I'd pay him the £80 & be thankful for the help, as from the looks of it he isn't making money out this arrangement - simply wishes to be reimbursed.

£80 sounds more then fair, for you to be offering £50 for him doing you a massive favour doesn't say much about your friendship.

if this is the newer ford focus , don't they do good mpg?

petrol and diesel versions do between 40 and 60mpg I think

even so £80 is fair for such a long journey

What a friend and a cheapskate you are.

+1 so he wants £80 which is reasonable but yet you will offer him £50 leaving him £30 short??

If you was my friend and you offered that much to me, id tell you to do one off a cliff preferably and id glady take you there myself and give you that final push:p

£50? Serious?!?! I don't think I can even manage 320 miles in my diesel for £50....

Please tell me your secret to getting 60mpg in your 320d.... :p I have a 118d and I don't think it's ever gone past 50mpg no matter how economically I drive :o
