dat hype

My god how will we cope? The area behind my tv that I can't see will never be the same again

It's all very well saying that, but the PS3 proved having an internal PSU is fine for a console. In fact my Original PS3 is far quieter than all the xbox's I've owned and hasn't broken through any heat issues like my 360 did.

Any benefit of an external PSU is so slight it becomes redundant with these consoles. It's just cheap, sloppy design.

The only thing that will convince me otherwise will be if the One is completely inaudible.

probably long time XBox users?

And PS3, I haven't owned an Xbox for nearly a year.

I'm not sure it's us who need to get a grip to be honest, I don't unbox an electrical item and think "OH **** - IT'S GOT A ******* EXTERNAL PSU. THIS IS SO LAST GEN".

TBH this same thing came up when the 360 launched. Guess what, not a single toss was given once people actually got their hands on them.

Some people will find anything to moan about

But it just makes no difference!

It keeps the mess of cable behind my TV cabinet less messy, and it will sit against the wall better, with a big brick in the way it would have to sit away from the wall.

Might not sound like an issue. but the times i have fished kids toys from the back not having to do that is much better.

My 2013 bravia TV has a power brick. Surpprised me but I didn't break down into hysterics, even though it's the 21st century.

Lol, that's the angriest post I've read in a while!

I'm sure lots of people give a toss. It's always annoying having to find somewhere to hide the brick and it makes moving it all more hassle- whenever I take my PS3 anywhere I can simply unplug the leads and away I go (because wherever I'm going will have a spare hdmi and kettle plug). With the xbox I have to drag that huge power brick and leads around as well.

The PS3 and now PS4 have proven that a consoles PSU can be internally located with no noticeable disadvantages. The only possibly reasons for Microsoft to make it external is a) to save design / manufacturing costs b) to make the console quieter / more reliable. If the PS3 vs 360 is anything to go by, it won't be any quieter nor reliable!

psu thing is pretty easy, its a component that can burn out in use so easy to swap a cable box out than a built in Trans to the motherboard, have read a few times of people where the power died on them and the whole machine has to go back. the larger power bricks also have surge protection better built in and the power "switcher".
Its a hardware choice, its got nothing to do with if it can be done or not.
