290/X or 7990

Think he said 50% was pointless:p, we'll find out in 2 or 3 days for sure.:D

It is kinda bugging me that we don't know yet and I suspect we won't know till Dice implement it in BF4 (I assume this will be the first iteration of it?). Talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words.... Show us something of importance over the next two days to whet our appetites.

Matt just get a 290X and be done with it:D

As awesome as the 7990s are, I'd have to echo what others have said and say I'd think you'll get bored pretty soon especially coming from crossfire 7950s.

At least with the 290/290x your getting something which has just come out and isn't already at its peak performance wise, I assume the 7990s are minus the improvements mantle will bring.

Its a performance drop from your current system yes but not a lot, will it be noticeable in games, I highly doubt it.

Thanks to kaaps, you've already seen the difference in pci speed going from 2-3, not a lot. At all and certainly something you won't notice in games.

As for noise and temps, it's subjective, but imo, @55%, the fan is not loud at all, and temps never break 85c, even after a few hours of Bf4.

My bet is Mantle will only give about 5% in real use setups.

I am also sure there will be some AMD backed benchmarks with the settings tweaked to show mantle in a good light.

A good example of bench tweaking (nothing to do with mantle) would be using Heaven 3 to show that any recent AMD card has higher max fps than a Titan.

I think we are going to be shocked, its well known that DX is a bloated mess due to years and years of cross compatibility requirements.

There will be a form of mantle and AMD drivers running in the new consoles. Its no coincidence that mantle on the PC is getting released about now, AMD have game code optimised for their hardware by default for the next 8 years its a big coup for them.

Lets face it, if dice have been as half assed with the mantle version as they have with the dx version, we'll be lucky to see performance figures above 0%

Matt, give it a few weeks, should be seeing custom oc 290x's before xmas.

You don't mean it could be as buggy as hell.:D

+1

After giving it some thought this is probably the way to go, you are not into watercooling but you are into new toys and this covers all the bases.

Get a 290 Pro and overclock it to around 1050MHz core (easily achievable on stock). For £300 you cant go wrong

290x, lot of good advice above.

Normally crossfire/sli will have issues in some games, time for drivers etc..
naturally you might get a few more fps the thing I always ask, will I notice those fps when I use the computer, and the answer often is not likely.

Then again, some cant have it like that ;)

The 7990 plays great. Battlefield 4 works, no complaints.
If it's a card you need for BF4 i'm pretty sure your crossfire 7950s are perfectly fine at 1440p.

290x or 290 Pro, I went for the 290 Pro over the 7990. 7990 may perform better right now but the 290x and 290 Pro are newer tech. More future proof and as drivers mature maybe one day they can take over the 7990 with future games.

Had 7990 for two weeks now came from a gtx680 and I'm loving it, I only play bf4 and it runs super fast and smooth, I was going to go for another gtx but for the price and performance I just had to £380 a steal id say, one card so more room in my case and also 6gb memory happy days lol. It's a lot quieter then I thought and temps are good only hits 82.

well some go crossfire then its 290p first and ltr another.
hard to beat the value for performance.

I got a 290p on route and a couple of days to go

Just that small bug where the game completely folds taking windows with it, I'm sure no one will notice :D

JUst so you know "only" 3GB is visible to Games on the 7990.
