State of Decay coming to PC(Steam)

I keep trying to start playing it, but then realise I'm not in the right frame of mind and stop. I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't think it was good, however, it seems to be a little different to what I was expecting.

As for the cars, well I moved to the trucking warehouse as it can repair 4 cars at once. Then just use them in circulation, so use car 1 until it is damaged, then park it up in the bay and move onto car 2 etc.

Is this repair ability there by default or do you need to upgrade and/or have a mechanic? I'm in that location and I've been trying to find a mechanic to enable the repair of vehicles, but are you suggesting I don't need to?

Furthermore, how often/when are the vehicles in these four spaces repaired?

I don't have a mechanic. I think you just need a workshop, and then upgrade it to a machine shop, which should enable car repairs. And I think it may repair them daily. Not entirely sure though, all I know is that when I come back the next day (IRL), they are repaired.

OK! I'll check I've upgraded it to a "machine shop" and then fill all four bays with the wrecks that are quickly accumulating around my area! Vehicles are getting few and far between!

Haha yeh I was like that when I started, but once I found out that there were a finite amount of vehicles I thought it would be best to save some.

The 4x4/trucks are by far the best for removing zombie hordes :D

Also, how do you know which Outpost is which? - I currently have 3-4 in the old town, 3-4 in the new town. I want to lose the old ones? How do I know which of my eight outposts are which?

And as regards outposts, how do you know how much resources you're getting from an outpost? I currently have three food outposts I think, and yet my food is still shown as -7 on the statistics screen? This means I'm losing 7 food a day and losing ground?

Unfortunately no, you can't see which outpost is which (apart from if it is giving you a resource and which one). I think the outposts are in the order in which you established them. So the first outpost in the list should be the first one you established.

Also, if you look in your inventory/objectives menu and flick through the different screens you should get to one that tells you what your daily income and outgoings are for each resource. I don't think it shows you per outpost though. I may be wrong, I haven't played it for a week now so I'm not sure if they changed anything with the final release update.

Bit of an oversight that! They should be numbered on your map (ie: what slot they're in).

Yeh, the screen tells you what you max resource level is, how much you have, and also your daily gain/loss. But there's no way of seeing how much a outpost is contributing.

ie: If I have three food outposts, are they all giving me food forever? How do I know if any/all are not?

Yeh I don't think there's any way of seeing per outpost.

I normally just go out and grab a few crates of whatever resource is lowest (usually medicine) before I turn the game off to reduce the amount of survivors that get ill etc.

Do supplies respawn?

After you loot a building it shows on the map as empty and nothing with spawn there again.

There is more than enough loot around though, when I was in the southern city Warehouse base, with 24 people on my group, I never ran low and only looted half the town before the end of the game. Just increase your base's storage capacity so you are not wasting your resources over night

So if you find supplies in a location and set up an outpost there, you "farm it" getting a regular income. That runs out? How on earth do you know if an Outpost has run out?

I only used the Outposts as a buffer zone around my main base to give loot runners a better success rate and to set traps for roaming hordes, and to prevent hordes from forming in houses next to the base. They may have given me resources but I didnt really notice. An Outpost in a farm may give food etc

OK! This is stupid!

So I have a "Workshop" in the Gas Station which cannot be upgraded to a "Motor Shop". So I can't fix cars!

I believe this is a random event, so suggests need to quit, and restart all over again just to be able to play a decent game from this home/location.

Actually I think if the 'base' location already has a workshop, you can't upgrade it. But if you build a workshop from scratch, you can then upgrade it to a machine shop.

Yes, but I spent hours and hours working to get to this place on the basis it was the best place in the game to complete it from. And then because of a random number the game decides not to give me a machine shop? I now have to lose my library or sleepiog quarter to build another workshop?

It's pathetic frankly! What do I do, play on with a handicapped position? Start again, in the hope next time the random number is more favourable?

Is there at least a way to (fix it) hack it?

I had a mechanic in my group early on (dude with the Stetson hat and shotgun) and had no problem upgrading for car repairs at either the church or the warehouse base.

It's been a while since I played, but I was sure in the workshop upgrade description it says you need to have a mechanic.

P.s what do you think is random about the base upgrade path? Maybe you chose the wrong type of workshop upgrade?
