steams download speeds?

Just read that virgin will be upping my download speed next year to 150Mbit - anyone know the speed of steams maxed throughput.

Not sure but it will easily cope with your connection. I currently download @ 120Mb/s and never have any problems with Steam maxing the connection.

maxing a 30mb on virgin is 4.2mb for me.

Long as you set the server to the right one you will get fast speeds.(depending its not peak time)

Ireland always worked best for me here seems less congested at peak times.

The vast majority of my Virgin traffic leaves the virgin network at Manchester if it helps. I get marginally better speeds out of Manc than London on 60MBit but it's splitting hairs really.

You guys do realise that the steam download speeds are in MB/s, while your internet connection speed is usually in Mb/s dont you? 8Mb/s = 1MB/s (little b = bits, big B = bytes). Pretty much everyone seems to be maxing out their connection when you take that into account

Didn't know that! Feel a bit better now, cheers.
Just found out about the Virgin upgrade in Feb too, mine should bumble along at a mere 50 Mb then. Happy days.

Estimated 3-4Mb, which of course averages 1.5Mb as I live in the middle of nowhere... right near the main flippin' BT exchange!!
I usually set Steam to d/l overnight... !
