3rd party 780Ti reviews

In the past few releases, Nvidia have had very strong release drivers.

You can gurantee that AMD driver team will be playing catch-up, any differences will probably be reversed again in a few months time.

The difference at high-resolution between the two cards appears to be within the margins of error <1-2fps.

Once the non ref versions of both brands premiere cards land, the drivers are tuned and AMD add their never settle bundle back. Then the playing field will be more even to judge. Thats when you will see the truth of what your money is buying you. I firmly believe once we see non ref 290/x series with the never settle bundle it will be even more blindingly obvious which is the better price to performance card and if the fabled mantle rumors turn out to be true.... then.... well......

I haven't had one, but I've been in the same room as one running at 95C at 55% fan speed.
It hit that halfway through a Heaven run.

Well I am totally shocked that this turned into a thread with the AMD forum representatives getting their hackles up. Mind you, happens the other way too. It's like the internet equivalent of a playground scrap except nobody has a valid reason for starting it.

I heard a rumor Nvidia are desperate to stop sales of the 290 as if enough people buy them its been scientifically advised it will prematurely bring on global destruction as the excess heat generated will cause all polar ice caps to melt! True story

Nvidia take the crown back from the 290X and people get all narky and defensive.

You have to remember a lot of people today weren't on the scene when ATi was the big evil red juggernaut and people were rooting for plucky little companies like Nvida and 3DFX. People have now heard for so long how AMD give the best bang for buck and their the ones out for the consumer whereas Nvida/Intel are the devil that a lot of people really believe it, and so any victory for AMD is like the hero triumphing over the villain whereas any victory for Nvidia/Intel is like Optimus Prime dying. People will get quite worked up over this stuff, even though when all is said and done they're all evil scumbag corporations out to fleece us for as much as they can get away with lol.

Well....then.....what?

We know AMD offer better price performance and always have. No-one questions that and it's never stopped people buying Nvidia before nor will it stop them now

Very very true and I do remember all to well. I have been around long enough and clung onto my Amiga 1200 and even stretched to an Amiga 4000 for a short spell that my mate flogged me cheap when the PC was very young. Oh how I miss those days and arguments with Atari owners :D GFX was unimportant to Atari owners apparently because we only had 4 channel sound, we were the weaker of the 2.... It did no good for either and sadly both are gone.

I praise AMD for what they have done and they do show support with guys like Thracks on forums and this is something I miss with Nvidia but like you say, they want our money and they want to drive big fancy cars and probably go on a Bugatti Veyron forum and tell the Mondeo owners to **** off when they keep jumping in their threads telling them that they have a cup holder that comes out of the dash and what do they have :p

I am still scratching my head a little at the Ostrich effect that their preferred brand is slower than the competition. For those that want the fastest GPU, at present it is the 780Ti. Sure it costs more but look at the Titan, that didn't stop people buying those and you could buy 3 7950's for the same price iirc. Some people will buy it and not care if it does cost a ton more than the slightly slower card. The 780 was the same price as this is now and people happily paid that.

I have said it before and will say it again.

The 290 is the choice for those that don't mind noise and want a good card at a good price or wait it out for the custom cooled cards, that I expect to be slightly more expensive than the current £300. For those that just want pure speed, the 780Ti is holding that crown.
