*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

On previous phones I've had, whether they ios based, Android or Windows Phone, the screen illuminates when an email or Whatsapp/SMS message is delivered.

With my N5 I hear the phone vibrate on the desk but it doesn't light up for me to have a quick glance to see if it's worth picking up and reading.

Is this normal with 4.4 or have I overlooked something in settings?

This is normal with Android.

I came from a 4S and I certainly am not looking back.

Yea? I'm not worried about the transition, it's more to do with the actual functionality and 'feel' of the phone.

Apple aren't wrong when they say beautiful product design, the ip5 just feels perfect for my hands.

My only two issues are how Apple 'lock you in' and the battery life.

It's normal, but the LED before the screen will flash instead

I love the feel of it in my hand, I love the freedom of not being locked in. I love the speed of the phone, the battery life and almost everything about it. No doubt Apple product design is great but this Nexus 5 is fantastic as far as I am concerned.

Good stuff :)

So I'll just need to unlock my ip5, sell it on the bay for £400(?) or so and get myself a Nexus 5.

Does the n5 take nano sim or micro sim? Or full sim

Edit: VERY important, how does it handle email? I live and work off my ip5 easy email client.

It handles email very well, who provides your email?

If it is gmail the default app is spot on. The basic email client also took on a fresh design in Kitkat 4.4.

Any questions specifically on what you need from your email client?

I'd end your contact buy one of these outright and get a cheap SIM only deal, it's not the sort of phone to get on contract.

Thats probably what I'm gona do. When a service provider offer you an *upgrade* can you also get deals on sim only?

Also with google hangouts. If I sign in on a new device, will it download all my sms on to the new handset?

i am loving this phone so far, the video and photo's are much better than the N4, i think 'hangouts' needs some more options and tweaks but i guess they will come.

Ha, why :)

I particularly hate my Nexus 7 tablet i was given for work, not the new one obviously. It is extremely slow and my work email just doesn't work well with it.

If you enjoyed the software on the N7 and just hated the hardware then the N5 is for you, tbh I find it faster then even the iPhone 5s in most cases, excluding the camera which is a bit slow to focus. Hardware wise I really like it, but it isn't as excited as the iPhone 5, it is rather understated which is a good look for me personally but not everyone.

Also does anyone else not see the N5 show up when you try to install an app from the playstore through your web browser using say a PC.

Well, I use Gmail, iCloud and two Outlook accounts for work. All of which work perfectly in the default mail app. Only issue is the way attachments are done, i mean they don't save anywhere :/

I just need it to WORK (apple seem to do just exactly that) and be capable of handling 4 accounts, with separation between them all.

Yea I can see the potential with android but the N7 just infuriated me, crashing apps, slow response, poor charger, buttons were a bit finicky.

Ha, the ONLY thing making me doubt the N5 is the size of it, I didn't get the galaxy when i got the ip5 due to not being able to comfortably use it with one hand.

My wife who is tiny 5'4 and 6-8 dress size uses her Nexus 5 with no issues with a case on making it slightly bigger. Any grown man therefore should have zero issues.

It always seems to be iPhone users who have a problem with size because they are used to tiny phones.

The nexus 5 is relatively a normal sized phone imo, it's the note series which is large and known as a phablet. The nexus 5 is a brilliant size imo.

The nexus 5 is the first nexus phone which has been brilliant at everything imo, the nexus 4's main issues were the camera and the overheating causing throttling.

Hope Franco gets his kernel fully stable and I will switch to that then undervolt the cpu to deal with heat and throttling but it is much improved over the nexus 4 which was shocking. Running antutu or quadrant in a fridge or freezer easily proves this as scores can be up to triple those in room temperature conditions

Intriguing.

I'm trying to do the Google Play & Services Framework trick to increase battery life but as someone else said earlier, I can't force stop Play Services - even after tapping 'Manage space' and clearing all data as suggested, it's still greyed out!?
